I think so... Not 100% sure though. Maybe we can wait for others to chime in.

I would think it's still considered a graphic novel. I don't want to decide though since I'm a challenger. :) Wayland or anyone else?

Hi Kate, I definitely think Wayland should make the final ruling since we are all challengers, like Shawnie said, but to my mind it still would be considered a graphic novel since that is its original format.

Kate wrote: "Thanks guys! That’s 3 votes for it being a GN so I’m going to go ahead and pick something else as I was leaning that way as well. Time to head to the library :)"
Happy hunting! :)

Any other ideas?

Good to know. :) I typed in "archaeologist" on the GR Browse Lists and lots came up.

It'll be your new favorite place to browse Lists. I spend too much time there. lol It's really good for finding challenge traits.

For the JSA Brownstone Landmark/Museum, does it count if it's a library that has exhibits like a museum?

Bad Deal- read a book where someone makes a very bad deal, where a bargain of some kind changes someone’s life, or with some kind of deal, agreement, or bargain being depicted on the cover.
Fairy or Fae books usually involve some kind of bargain or deal and always changes the person's life. :)
I also like the Kara Gillian series by Diana Rowland starting with Mark of the Demon. It's adult. Bargains with a demon.

Some Harry Dresden books. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, though that book sucks.

Wayland,
For Ghost Rider/Flaming Skull, is it okay if the skull is on the back cover instead of the front cover?

Thirteens fits and is perfect for Halloween if you are ok with middle grade fantasy. I enjoyed it a lot as an adult reader.

For Scorpion, Mac Gargan, Private Investigator: Would a book where a main character (a civilian) is hired by the police to investigate off the record, work?

***
Manual Laborer- read a book where a major character works at a manual labor type job, where manual labor is important to the story, or with someone doing a simple physical job (digging, chopping wood, etc.) on the cover/
Crowbar- read a book where someone uses a crowbar, where someone helps destroy something, or with any implement of destruction on the cover/
It’s A Mistake- read a book where a mistake has some serious repercussions, where mistaken identity is important to the story, with “mistake” in the title, or with some kind of mistake on the cover/

I hit up my friend who's a school librarian for ideas and this is what she recommended:
1. Manual Laborer: The Labors of Hercules Beal
2. Crowbar: Warrior Girl Unearthed
3. It’s A Mistake: A Perfect Mistake
Personally, I have yet to dislike a book she recommends, regardless if it's MG, YA, or adult. She's good at finding the ones with general appeal. That said, I haven't read any of these yet, so no promises!
Other ideas from stuff I have read:
For crowbar: LotR, Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow, World War Z, His Dark Materials, Red White & Royal Blue, Turtles of the Midnight Moon, War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence, Pathogenesis: A History of the World in Eight Plagues, An Elegant Defense: The Extraordinary New Science of the Immune System: A Tale in Four Lives
It's a mistake seems the easiest to fit with SFF books as most involve a mistake of some kind. For non-fic, Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power, Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth, War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence, and any plague history book would work (Pathogenesis: A History of the World in Eight Plagues, A Planet of Viruses, The Great Mortality: An Intimate History of the Black Death, the Most Devastating Plague of All Time, And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic, etc).

Red White and Royal Blue for Crowbar??(I don't mind spoilers)
I stumbled into a book for Mistake. Will Save the Galaxy for Food has a significant instance of mistaken identity, but I just picked it up for fun.
Moon Called works for Manual Labor and Iron Kissed for Crowbar, but I prefer to not reread.
PS: librarians are so awesome.

Can they be read out of order?

I recommend reading in order, but you shouldn't be too lost if you don't. He tends to give a recap at the beginning. They are quick books. The first book has some destruction, but I don't think it's TOTAL destruction. It's also the founding of a group.

Any ideas for Commoners JSA Brownstone Landmark?:
1. Moving Day
Read a book where a company or organization relocates to a new city, founds a new headquarters or base of operations, or with some kind of moving truck or boxes on the cover.

I'm struggling with this one too 😕

Burn Rate
This one should work too and can be read out of order: The Case of the Haunted Haunted House.

Please tell your librarian friend that The Labors of Hercules Beal is AMAZING!!! I am thoroughly in love with this book and I haven't even finished it yet.

I just read Murder with Peacocks. The MC is a blacksmith, though you don't see her do much smithing in the book.

Yep! "someone helps destroy something" - the 2 MCs destroy a wedding cake, which is a significant plot point early in the book that drives a lot of the story.

Yay! Will do. I have it out from Libby and can't wait to get to it after I finish Warrior Girl Unearthed, which is also proving to be excellent.

I used Turtles of the Midnight Moon, a really good older MG/younger YA book. It's admittedly a loose interpretation of the "founds a new... base of operations," but one MC's dad is part of an outreach org that sets up a temp office in a new city to educate locals and she goes with him for the summer.

- there’s a source of evil that doesn’t age
- an evil being lives a long time
- something evil on the cover
I'm already planning on using The Dark is Rising for Darkseid - Boom Tube, so can't use that unless there's Christmas ideas for that one.
I'm not into romance or mystery genre, which I realize limits Christmas book options quite a lot...

Really? I've read a few that would fit, like The Dark is Rising, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King. I feel like it's pretty common in fantasy Christmas books. I just can't tell from jacket summaries what will fit that I haven't read.

I've relistened to The Dark is Rising a few times because it's so good, but I need to finish the series still.

I dont know if you like horror but NOS4A2 might work. It isn't all Christmas, but the bad guy in the book, who is pure evil, lives in a place he calls Christmasland and there are a lot of Christmas references.

BBC turned it into a podcast series earlier this year.

Omg, I hadn't heard of this. Definitely listening to it. Thanks!

I'm looking for recommendations for short fast reads for:
Mera - Xebel- read a book set in a prison or penal colony, where a major character spends a lot of time imprisoned in some way, or with a prison, jail, or metal bars on the cover.
Should be easy but for some reason I don't feel like reading the ones I find right now.
Thanks in advance :)
