H.M. Long (hannahlong) | 22 comments Hello! I'm looking for help with a list I made (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...), which unfortunately has been spammed by several people adding books that do not qualify for the topic - Adult fantasy (and explicitly sci-fantasy) releases of 2023. The books are listed here, along with their numbers. Thanks so much for any help!

20 - System Collapse by Martha Wells
42 – The Mother, B. L. Blanchard
48 – Paradise 1, David Wellington
49 – Meru, S. B. Divya
53 - The Twice-Drowned Saint by C.S.E. Cooney
55 - Lessons in Birdwatching by Honey Watson
55 - The Library of Broken Worlds by Alaya Dawn Johnson
57 - Flight & Anchor by Nicole Kornher-Stace
66 - Starter Villain by John Scalzi
62 - Translation State by Ann Leckie (x2 listings)
64 - Proud Pink Sky by Redfern Jon Barrett
65 - Infinity Gate (Pandominion #1) by M.R. Carey
67 - Emergent Properties by Aimee Ogden
69 – Unbreakable by Mira Grant
69 - The Blighted Stars (The Devoured Worlds #1) by Megan E. O'Keefe
71 - Loki's Ring by Stina Leicht
73 - Venom & Vow by Anna-Marie McLemore

Elizabeth (Alaska) This does not require a Super Librarian. But I looked at the first 3 and all are sci-fi fantasy and published in 2023. It looks to me as if those fit the list.

So maybe you need to explain why and which ones specifically are not sci-fi fantasy.

Hello! I apologize if I'm in the wrong section, I searched for somewhere appropriate for lists but couldn't find it. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me anyway.

I picked these ones out as inappropriate for the list by looking at the categories they were tagged in on their listing pages. Some of these do have a general "science fiction fantasy" tag, lumping the two genres together. But the titles I selected to remove are on the science fiction side of SFF, and therefore don't qualify for this fantasy list.

Some of the titles I listed are simply young adult, so that's why they don't qualify.

I hope that clarifies things! Thanks again.

Elizabeth (Alaska) OK, I'm sure this list was not "spammed". As you have allowed science fiction in the description, I'm sure members think those fit the topic.

Someone else may wish to deal with this.

Thank you for your time.

Emily | 17492 comments The genres/tags are crowd-sourced from readers' shelf names. Since people's definitions of science fiction and fantasy (and their sub-categories) can differ and overlap, I'm afraid those tags are not going to be definitive.
If there is a stronger case for any of them to be removed, such as the wrong publication year or something far afield from sci-fantasy, you can definitely let us know.

That said, if you would like to list the YA ones specifically I will look at them, but sometimes those cross over with adult.

Hello Emily! I see what you're saying, thank you for replying. Would you mind helping me remove those YA titles, then?

If so:

#15 - To Shape a Dragon's Breath, Moniquill Blackgoose
#72 - Venom and Vow, Anne-Marie McLemore

Thanks so much for your help!

Next time, please post requests of this type to the Book Issues folder.

I will, thank you!

Emily | 17492 comments I've removed Venom and Vow as it is clearly YA. I'm not sure about the other one; there may be crossover elements so it is more of a gray area.
