Elizabeth (Alaska) Librarian notes from deleted user.

The ISBN #### for this book was also used by another book (and with a link).

See, for example:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...

Am seeing a lot of these and believe they are from the Amazon imports. In many cases they are being added to books where an ISBN-10 has been added to the ASIN field, but to others with a true ASIN. I believe in this example this ASIN is from back when Amazon assigned an ASIN to used booksellers. In the example above, the ASIN does not exist yet the import was yesterday, December 22.

Why are they here? Why don't we just merge these empty books into the default edition?

Elizabeth (Alaska) Also, if my conjecture is correct, it would be helpful for Goodreads to let librarians know what is going on so we can proceed appropriately.

issues with imports should be reported to GR Support.

I recognize that Arenda. And I reported one. I will be happy to report the hundreds of them I see. But I'm not sure they will be happy about that. Rivka was very good about keeping us informed.

I might add, these books being added are not "additional books listed in the Amazon catalog."

Elizabeth (Alaska) So I sent this to support. I encourage others.

Rivka left us this information about the imports. I reported one book earlier this morning. The books being imported are not "additional books listed in the Amazon catalog." They are either not in the Amazon catalog (have ASINs from when Amazon put ASINs on used books) or not additional books (putting ISBN10 in the ASIN slot when the ISBN10 already exists). This process is a hot mess.

Moloch | 3975 comments it's creating a lot of useless duplicates and confusing notes

here https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... we have a record that has both the ISBN of the ebook edition and the ASIN of the Kindle edition, which are treated as separated editions on Goodreads

it's impossible to create separate Kindle editions for the books that have been automatically imported with both the ISBNs for the ebook and the ASIN for the Kindle editions

Correct. Those have to be reported to staff.
