It's starting to be more interesting but it's definitely slow reading.

Ok so I have been back burner reading this

If this would work for the 2 blue i can dedicate time to finishing it.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that for anthologies we can only use the listed editor. In this case it would be Saundra Mitchell, so it wouldn't work for the 2.

Jodi | 130 comments What do we have left? Can I claim anything? It sounds like everybody wants Blue 2. I get an email I’m not contributing (which I’ve had a rough year/ month and my 15 yo dog died last week) then I try to get some in and get my tasks snatched. I need ASSIGNED tasks. At this point, I don’t even know what to read. Maybe this set up isn’t a good match for me and we should part ways. I’ve played multiple times and always had a working spreadsheet where everyone could access and claim books. I’m trying to do it different as this group does it different but now I’m lost and have no idea what to even read. There’s 10 days left in the month too… are we racing? What’s the deadline?

message 410: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 130 comments I also don’t read several books a day so I need to plan and need time to read the plan.

If you look at message 9 in this thread you will see what's available for the mini-challenge tasks. Or you can also look at the Feb Mini tab on the spreadsheet.

For color cards, we had put you down for a Blue 2 at the beginning of the month. And we put Emelie down for the Red 9. But she is having real life interfere with reading, so if you read a Red 9, the back-up would be great!

For regular cards, just post everything you read. We can always fit them in, even if we move other things around, until we've filled all cards. Because most books will fit multiple spots, it works best to not claim the regular cards.

Eldarwen did respond to your comment and let you know that the book you posted isn't quite 50% blue, so it won't work for the Blue 2. Do you have another possibility?

message 412: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 130 comments I put what I was reading for red 9 and then somebody else immediately said they had it. Yes, I have a whole list of Blue 2’s if somebody would give me a chance to read one. Maybe for March, I can claim a few and then y’all just let me do it. It’s not a race and I don’t want to take time finding a book, to just have it taken away.

message 413: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments You are right, it is not a race. But it is also a team challenge, which requires communication from the start and it means helping each other out. If the people who at first claim books disappear for two weeks without a word (weekly check-ins at least, as per the rules), it is normal for the team to pick up that slack, for lack of a better word, because we all want to finish our cards. This does not mean we aren't sorry to hear you are having problems in your real life - believe me, I know that losing a pet you have spent a long time with hits hard - but check in. Let us know if this is the case.

If you are still reading for the 2 Blue, then read for the 2 Blue. If you can also read for the 9 Red, then read for the 9 Red. It doesn't exclude that somebody else is also going to read a book that would fit these cards in case something happens in real life.

Colour cards are the trickier cards, so if towards the end of the month, they aren't filled in, it is only normal that someone else would pick up a book for them - just in case. That does not mean the cards are snatched away from someone else. It is called having a back-up. (Which Laura explicitly said earlier - twice even - would be great to have.)

As you have been told by Laura and by myself, there is a list at the beginning of the thread with the tasks that are left unclaimed. The names are also written down next to the tasks on the team spreadsheet. You claim the tasks you want to read for here in the thread - no different than putting your name down on a planning spreadsheet. It just requires more communication. Which essentially is still key in a team challenge and let's everyone know that everyone is still around.

This challenge is meant to be fun! And team members help each other out. You were having real life issues. Be happy that someone else is willing to cover for you while you're dealing with everything.

Listed editor for anthologies, it is, yes :-)
Don't stress to finish for February, Kayt. Might as well savour the stories and finish it in March to use for one of the March cards. (If we get a Blue card where your anthology fits hehe. One never knows with the randomiser!)

Sorry to see though that it wasn't the best of reads. Ah well, can't all be winners ;-)

message 425: by Eldarwen (last edited Feb 20, 2023 11:43PM) (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments For the mini challenge:

I am currently reading Tempt Me at Twilight, which I am loving as I do with all her books, so I am definitely going to read this one this week so no stealing the Twilight task ;-)

All the other tasks - Dawn in title/series title (for more points), mention of martial arts, tagged "justice" or "enemies" - feel free to grab them. I am currently reading books for 2 of them, but can absolutely relinquish them if you have a book that fits them or want to pick one up for these tasks.

But please bear in mind that there are some open tasks yet that have not been claimed which we are going to need to read for and none of my books fit for those, so I cannot switch them around.

And for those tasks where there are two options, and one option is worth more points, it'd be great if we could cover the option worth more points!

:-)

Unclaimed Tasks are:
10. Read a book where a character is guarding somebody/something
22. Read a book with a white cover
28. Read a book shelved Autumn or Fall (min 3 tags) or with one of the autumn months in the title
38. Read a book shelved Winter (min 3 tags) or with one of the Winter months in the title

Claimed Tasks that could be switched to someone else:
1. Read a book with blue or green or teal letters on the cover
7. Read a book with the word "DAWN" or "SUNRISE" in the text (6 points) or title or series title (10 points) - Laura has one for this on her list for this month as well in case nobody else has something
19. Read a book shelved Justice or Enemies (min 3 tags)
46. Read a book where a martial art of Asian origin is mentioned in the text - Laura has a back-up just in case

message 426: by Laura (new)
