So I’m looking at this series…I read Warbreaker…loved it….it’s on this list…do you know?…can all the books on this list be read independently? https://www.goodreads.com/series/1351...

That’s the list of all the books in the same universe, but some of them are their own series.
Some standalones other than Warbreaker:
The Emperor’s Soul - a novella but it really packs a punch (this is what I read first!)
Elantris - Sanderson’s debut so it’s simpler than the rest of his books but still fun imo
Tress of the Emerald Sea - more whimsical than any of his other novels
And then there’s Mistborn (https://www.goodreads.com/series/4091...) #1-3 is it’s own trilogy, and that’s definitely where I’d recommend you read next (unless you want to read a standalone)
Finally The Stormlight Archive (https://www.goodreads.com/series/4907...) is going to be 10 books, with each 5 books being a sub-series - 4 of them are out. This series is absolutely amazing imo but it’s also a lot so you need some trust in the author (or if you already read a lot of long fantasy). It does a good job of not being bogged down with too many characters and complexity that way, the difficulty is that you are dropped into a completely new world and slowly understand things that are happening
I hope that helps!

Thanks Mahi
I loved Warbreaker…that’s where I started only to find out I’d have to wait a few years for the next
I’m ok with long..but I didn’t enjoy A Game of Thrones asan example. In my view the book had way too many characters
I’ll take your advice and start next with Mistborn but when I’ve got more time to concentrate on the book.
I’m may check out a couple of standalones in the meantime

I’ve also started #4 in the Mistborn series, but not sure how long that will take to get through.
It seems like we have a lot of Brandon Sanderson fans in this team 😀

I don’t know how much you’ve read through but just a heads up the the second era of Mistborn is pretty different from the first one. Still good but like how Legends of Korra was good but not completely like Avatar.

I recommend starting with Ugly Love if you haven’t read any…you’ll love it

I read Malibu Rising and was ambivalent about it. But a friend read Carrie Soto and said I would like it and I LOVED it. (I was meh about Daisy Jones which I read right after). I think what made this really land with me was yes, it's in the Taylor Jenkins Reid universe but there was a lot about competition and sport and just how people are motivated.

I also loved Carrie Soto! I really loved the competition and how true Carrie Soto seemed as a character. She was imperfect and unapologetic, and also had a thoughtful side at the end.
I read Daisy Jones first, and thought it was interesting. I haven't read Malibu Rising. I really loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

Thanks Fallen for the update and for your courageous work.

I just finished Blood Bound as well! Thanks for checking in!

Melissa reports we’re making excellent progress! Hopefully we’ll have the mini by this weekend…please plan to checkin at least by Sunday for details.

I love the minis, can't wait!

COUNTDOWN to mini Start > https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
The mini has arrived!
A couple of suggestions…
1. There’s a few tasks that have the option for 10 pts vs 6 pts…let’s 1st try for the 10 pt option and also…let’s try to claim these tasks sooner than later
2. If you are currently reading a book that also works for the mini, if you can, hold off finishing until our mini start time. I know most of us are doing other challenges, so this may not be possible.
3. Please ask any questions here in our thread…captains will get answers for you.
Mini Details -> https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
There will be a tab added to our WSS soon.

#43 Read a book with the name of any officially recognized animal constellations in the title .
And #26 Read a book with some kind of metal or a metallic object on the cover

I’ll double check…but I believe as long as it shows up with the title when you search, it’s fine…be back in a minute as I’m sure that question was already discussed
*subtitles are fine
@All, please be sure to ‘link’ the version you are reading…I know…
I’m behind on my links because of travel…I’ll catch everything up tomorrow

No worries. We all go through ups and downs in the reading challenges - I hope your migraine has gone away!

Sweet

Just looking back at the directions, it says:
Draw 2
Use the same book for two cards in this hand (and get points for both cards)
So I think we get to have one book for two slots (in this case the 1 and the 4) and we get points for both, even though they are the same book.
We don't get points for the Draw two card though - that's why it is greyed out.
We have another one of those in hand 8.

We show 33 completed cards out of 105 possible. At this pace we would finish a few cards short of all our hands; however I asked us to hold off finishing so I know there's a few out there that just need a chapter or 2 read etc. We should be fine. Realize each month will add one additional hand.
We do have 2 color cards left...a YELLOW 2 and one WILD DRAW 4 which can be a duplicate of any of our colored cards except for those already claimed (no 2Green or 1Blue)
If you haven't already, please check out the MINI...any book that is finished after the mini countdown ends can be used...and books read for the main, can also be used for the MINI...I'd like to make sure that anything already on our UNO card has a spot on the MINI if at all possible.

I know I read somewhere about a page limit for books that we read for UNO challenge. Could someone please tell me what it is? I can’t find it anywhere.
I’m not a huge reader (would like to read more, just don’t always have as much time as I’d like) but have been driving a lot for work the last couple of weeks and have quite a few trips over next few weeks so have been listening to a few audiobooks and realised that one I listened to was only 139 pages.

No worries!
The page limit is 100. With a book close to the page limit, I usually check the word count - in fact, I just did that this morning for one of my books. That can be found on the AR bookfind - mostly if it is a middle grades book, or a graphic novel. The word count is 25,000.
If you'd like, I can check the word count? Just let me know the title :)

There's been a question in the past about book limits too...I wanted you to know that unlike a few other challenges, you can read as many books as you want...the mods account for the fact that readers typically read more books during challenges for this one.
It all evens out as our real lives catch up to us sometimes and then there's the fact that sometimes we like to read a longer book now and then too.

COUNTDOWN to mini Start > https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
About 13 hours left to the start of the mini - if you haven't already found a place for your current reads on the mini SS...please do so.
If something fits in a spot that's already taken, let's make a note of that or try and move things around to maximize
Thanks everyone!

Thanks for looking that up. I read Daisy Jones and Three Bags last week (I updated the spreadsheet). I thought I updated these as I went along but looks like I missed them. (Also, for anyone interested, Daisy Jones was pretty good. Three Bags Full was pretty bad to me).

@melissa…insect book…please correct version so full title shows…I’m looking at mini and f.o.u.r is not showing in title…hope this makes sense…this book looks interesting…will be interested to hear about it.

I put the correct title in Tammie - thanks for the catch! For some reason, when I put the date in it says NA in the points category. Do you know why that might be happening?
The book was eye opening. I had wondered why I don't see so many fireflies in the summer, and why I don't splatter as many insects on a road trip in the summer. Well, there's a reason! Insects are in sharp decline - due to agricultural practices, global warming, and manicured lawns. (in a nutshell) A bit doom and gloom - but necessarily so it seems.

Yes...on colored cards the formula is incompatable so we need to delete the formula and put 30 pts there. It's a manual entry. This only applies to colored cards. I chgd it.
Thanks !

Not good I think. I've got a book about the decline of bees to read as well. I might try and pick this one up and read it one day.

Emma I have never figured out how to link from an iPad
@ALL...if anyone knows how, please share!
For the purpose of our challenge, just be sure the book version you read is correct when you put it on your shelf. The captains will link you up if you can't :)

@Jo I added It Ends with us to the Mini...tagged 'summer'
@Fallen I added it Ends with us to the Mini...tagged 'spring'
