To start the new year with something fun we are doing a January 2023 Sci-Fi Big Buddy Read and wanted you to choose which book you'd like to read by voting on our poll. Marie, Sally and myself picked two books each, the one with the most votes will be our Big Buddy Read in January :)
You can vote till December 28, 2022. Once the poll is over we will set up a thread for the winner. We are planning on reading the winner on January 15th, 2023.

Books that are on the poll and a little bit about them:
Alien Hunters
Alien Hunters (Alien Hunters #1) by Daniel Arenson
"A group of scruffy mercenaries, the Alien Hunters travel the galaxy in their starship, a mechanical dragon that spits out plasma like dragonfire. If an alien has invaded your space station, asteroid mine, or lunar colony, the Alien Hunters will remove the pest for you. Low rates. No questions asked.. A space opera adventure for fans of Star Wars, Firefly, and Guardians of the Galaxy"
Marque Rising
Star Marque Rising (The Star Marque Trilogy #1) by Shami Stovall
"The future is governed through a genetic hierarchy—superhumans at the top, humans and defects at the bottom. A fast-paced space opera for those who enjoy Old Man’s War by John Scalzi, Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds, or anything by Robert A. Heinlein."
Portals
Portals by Douglas E. Richards
"Hidden portals link Earth to numerous other planets. But why do they all contain human civilizations? And why does our nearest neighbor have its sights set on Earth? Portals is a masterful near-future thriller, one packed with nonstop action, astonishing twists, and mind-blowing concepts."
Station Eleven
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
"One snowy night a famous Hollywood actor slumps over and dies onstage during a production of King Lear. Hours later, the world as we know it begins to dissolve. Set in the days of civilization's collapse, Station Eleven tells the story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity."
The Kaiju Preservation Society
The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi
Imagine a monster laiden Jurassic Park in an alternate reality that has a link to Earth, what could go wrong?
The Paradox Hotel
The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart
"An impossible crime. A detective on the edge of madness. The future of time travel at stake."
"A fast-paced closed room mystery taking place in a hotel for time travel tourists." (From Nancy's review)
