20.1 Most Improved Player- Julia103's Task: What's in a Name

I enjoy puzzles and wordplay. When thinking about Norse mythology one thing that jumped out at me is how the names of Norse gods can be rearranged (anagrammed) to familiar words or prefixes in English.

Choose one of these options:
Required: Indicate the option.

Option 1: Odin (the Allfather)
The letters in ODIN also spell DINO. Read a book with a dinosaur on the cover (skeletons work) or with the word “dinosaur” in the title/subtitle. Plurals and possessives work.
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton , Dinosaur Planet (Dinosaur Planet, #1) by Anne McCaffrey
Required: If using the cover option, you must include the cover.

Option 2: Thor (god of thunder)
The letters in THOR also spell ROTH. Read a book where ROTH is intact in the author’s name. Veronica Roth, Patrick Rothfuss, Joyce Brothers

Option 3: Loki (god of mischief)
The letters in LOKI also spell KILO, the prefix for thousand. Read a book with “thousand” in the title, subtitle or series name. It can either be spelled out or as numbers. "Thousand" as part of a hyphenated word is acceptable. Plurals and possessives work. Years in the title like 1776, The Year's Best Science Fiction & Fantasy, 2014 or 2001: A Space Odyssey) do NOT work. If the number is NOT being used as a year, and is normally pronounced with "thousand", it does work- 1001 Ways to Reward Employees
ex. 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, On Paper: The Everything of Its Two-Thousand-Year History, The Dog Who Couldn't Stop Loving: How Dogs Have Captured Our Hearts for Thousands of Years

Option 4: Tyr (god of war)
The letters in TYR also spell TRY. Read a book from the first 10 pages of either of these shelving lists Did Not Finish or Abandoned.
You must finish the book (smiley).
Required: State the shelf and the page on which your book appeared.

Christine | 917 comments Hello! For Option 4, I would like to read The Age of Innocence which is currently found seventh from the bottom of page 10 of the Abandoned shelf.

Are you able to approve this book for use in Option 4 in case the book drops off the 10th page before I complete it?

Jonquil | 1059 comments Option 1

Just checking that the dino on the cover is clear enough. Thanks!

Z. Raptor by Steve Cole

Julia (julia103) | 2718 comments Jonquil, are you definitely reading that edition?
I don't recognize it as a dinosaur (is that the head at the top reaching over the Z?) But the cover on the first paperback edition is clear enough.

Congratulations on finding a book that has dinos on the cover and mentions Odin in the description!

Lauren (laurenjberman) I've just noticed that the book I chose for option 4 moved down on the list from page 8 to page 9. Can I have it confirmed here in case it drops more?

The book is Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1) by Richelle Mead on page 9 of the Did Not Finish Shelf

Thanks!

LouLouReads | 221 comments Are rereads okay? Lots of people have (inexplicably) shelved Jane Eyre as did-not-finish, and it's a favourite which is very much due a reread--but I'm not sure if rereading a book that I know I love is in keeping with the spirit of the task XD

Julia (julia103) | 2718 comments According to Rules of the Challenge:

8. Re-reads are acceptable unless otherwise stated in a specific task.

I didn't mention anything about re-reading, so they would be acceptable.

There are a lot of books on that shelf that have high ratings, which just shows many GR members have different tastes. (On the other hand, the book that I read for this task is one that I wouldn't have finished either if it weren't for the challenge.)
