Wow, what a great haul, Gopal. Some great books!
Yea Sue, now the trouble is finding the time to read through all of these in addition to the ones I got out of my local library. Talk about over reaching.
Diane S ⛄ wrote: "Wow, Gopal. Impressed, some good ones there."Thanks Diane. I am specially interested in The Poverty Industry and Evicted. They are not thrillers or fiction even.
Homelessness and Poverty is on the rise and much is being done to help the people without a lot of accountability.
Congrats, Mr. Minion. As Sue says, very impressive indeed! As of today, I am down to 5 Net Galley books with one request pending.
Hehehe... 5 books only, I would be glad to see such a day. I got about 40 books on my netgalley shelf. I read all of them, then I am done with my challenge for this year... *wink*

I almost requested this book, still might. My thought was that after pretty much living it, I wasn't sure whether I would feel comfortable reading about it. I've worked my entire life, well started at 12 babysitting. Raising 2 children with a dead beat Dad on one income isnt enough. Hopefully this book will open some eyes. Things need to change. I will never forget the night we had been visiting my sister's family and came home about 11:45pm. After bathing the kids they were getting ready for bedwhen someone knocked on my door. By this time it was at least 12:30am. I opened the door to my sleaze of a landlord standing there suprised to see my kids still up and asking why they were still up. ????? I asked him if there was something wrong, and he said no and quickly decided to leave. He had come by hoping to talk me into giving him sexual favors in place of paying rent. Yuck! I am not and have never been that type of person, but there is always some slime ball looking to pray on people in need.
Nobody should have to go through that Lynn... You are a courageous women. Yes exploitation will always be there, it is the nature of the beast, the perception of power. There is enough available in this world for everyone, but people hoard. Death comes for all and none can carry anything once dead, people forget this.. and this is the reason the world is as it is currently...

Totally agree. Thank goodness the children were still up with you, Lynn! I hope you're in a much better situation in your life now.
Got approved to 2 more books on Net Galley, so that's my count up to 42.
- Andy McDermott
- Somini Sengupta
Forget it. Not till those numbers go down. You may plead your case and your fellow members may take pity on you and provide food and drink.

Christine wrote: "Kudos, Janet. The Minion Man should not be walking the streets!"Hey I will have you known, that no jail can hold a Minion for more than a day or two. I will be bailed out or broken out but I will be out...
Kampai!!!!

Sometimes you just have to let what that Christer gal says go in one ear and out the other. I was approved for Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. I have only read one chapter. It takes place in Milwaukee, which surprisingly is the fourth poorest city in the United States. I think that it is going to be a good book. I believe that you will like it.
Christine wrote: "How much for bail, Janet?"Ha, I'm down to 41 now, just finished 1 book. Will review it today late in the night.
Freedom here I come!!!

This book also gets into the dead beat landlords and their bag of tricks. I am like just wow.
After a scintillating escape *bond music playing in background* from the deep dungeons of doom, the minion is back... and it's business as usual... Got approved for two more books:
by Stephen Hunter
by Robert Bryndza
got approved The Passenger by Lisa Lutz
anybody care to join me reading this and maybe starting a thread?

Cheers, Sandy. Sorry you got turned down. Sometimes just luck of the draw. I've read the previous two and really enjoyed those. I'm hoping this one will outdo those two. Sarah's books do seem to get better and better. :)
