Rolls for 1/29:KateNZ 2-6
Robin P 4-1
Joy D 6
Olivermagnus 3
Ellen 3-3
Hannah 5-3
Nancy 1
Joy, you get a surprise advantage. The advantage is that you can move double whatever you roll. You can invoke this advantage before ANY given roll, so please request to use it when you request your roll.
Anita wrote: "Joy, you get a surprise advantage. The advantage is that you can move double whatever you roll. You can invoke this advantage before ANY given roll, so please request to use it when you request your roll. ..."Thanks, Anita. I'll save it for later.
5 in some form seems to be my default roll. I have landed on another 400+ page book. It's a physical book I know I have owned for MANY years and probably would never have gotten to. I hope I like it better than the last one.
Now that we have an expanded game to keep us busy through the year, utilizing multiple rounds moving through the cars of the StS Express, thought you might like to know how to know when you are moving on to the next car. Maybe Anita will even put this in the Master Gameboard threads for each level? Just so no one gets lost.
Car Gameboard #s
Caboose 1 - 15
Baggage Car 16 - 35
Second Class Lounge 36 - 55
First Class Cafe 56 - 79
Private Parlor Car 80 - 89
Royal Coach 90 - 99
Locomotive 100
Each round starts over in the Caboose. After completing your first gameboard, however, when you reenter the Caboose to start your journey to reach Porter, you enter with the title you earned, i.e. Clerk. You do have duties to perform as you go along of course. Only novices have none.
I will continue to periodically post where everyone is. it's starting to spread out a bit -- not be clumped at the back of the train.
Past time for an update on what car everyone is hanging out in. My day job and a few other commitments are severely interfering with my reading and PBT duties, not helped by a certain sassy player's antics in the Baggage Car. As of late Sunday afternoon:
Caboose - Lina, Hayjay, Katelovestoread, Joi, Heather, Sallys, Doughgirl, MargieD, Theresa, Sabrina, RachelN, LibraryCin, Teodora, AJ. Clerks: Olivermagnus, JoyD, NancyJ
Baggage Car - Joanne, Sue, B.C., Nicole, LindaC, Pam,
Amy, Anarresa, NicoleD, Charolette, Cheryl, Chili, BnB, JenK, Cora
Second Class Lounge - Tien, DianaH, Hannah, BnB, Robin - the renovated upgraded car for Second Class is due to be delivered on Monday! I am sure you are more than ready for it.
First Class Cafe - Daniel, Ellen, KateNZ (though she's leaving very soon)
Private Parlor Car, Royal Coach are currently empty, locked up and staffs not due to return just yet. Locomotive has the relief engineer on duty until someone comes along.
With Clerks now making their way through the train, some additional staff is being added to the crew.
I am ready for my second roll in round one. I think I am on the freight train. Moving very slowly. Must be a long and heavy pull or the tracks have been blocked by avalanche. I have always admired those sleek and contemporary passenger trains. Maybe one day I will get to ride on one of those in something other than the caboose. HaHa!
Honestly, I think I am involved in more contests than I can competively take part in when every book I read is 500+ pages.
So speed on, my highly impressive reading friends, enjoying your bullet train and I will bring in the oil to fuel your next ride.
Thanks Theresa for the gameboard numbers! I wasn't quite sure where I was sitting but it is all clear now. I will blame the luxuries of the baggage car for my not starting my next Subdue book (well over 10 days since I rolled for it... ). I must have gotten stuck on a really good puzzle, a kitty in my lap and a bottomless drink.
I am in the Caboose with Margie .... and I confess to enjoying the Cabanna Boy eye candy, driinks and buffet, and now being distracted from starting my 2nd book by my game of Carcasonne with LibraryCin.@Jenk - you don't want to be in Second Class Lounge anyway until the new renovated car replaces the current one!
I am ready for another roll. The trunk is similar to Hermoine's purse in the Deathly Hallows, so it holds as many games and puzzles as you wish. I am enjoying the puzzles - hope the train doesn't jostle too much, though I think Gnarly the cat is trying to play with the pieces. :-)
Theresa wrote: "and now being distracted from starting my 2nd book by my game of Carcasonne with LibraryCin..."LOL! I haven't quite picked up my 2nd book yet (but that should come soon!).
By the way, did you know we really could play Carcassonne (and lots of other board games) online? boardgamearena.com if anyone is interested. Granted, I feel quite busy at the moment, but if anyone really is interested, I'm sure we could find time. I have a paid account so can access all the games. Anyone else interested would only need a free account. If anyone is interested, feel free to message me. :-)
Rolls for 1/30Cora 2-6

I have company coming today, so getting these roll requests out a teensy bit early.
Hi all! I just got back on the train. There was no place to sit, so I’m tucked back in a corner on top of my suitcase, just like on Amtrak after Thanksgiving when I was in college. It was so quiet on January 2nd, but now there’s a party atmosphere. I’m pretty sure there are a few new people checking us out from other groups. I rolled a 1 yesterday and I just started my book so I’ll be here a while.
LoL Joy, wasn't it you who said you would slow it down this roll? You have had a roll everyday since becoming a Porter! You keep going girl!
Joanne wrote: "LoL Joy, wasn't it you who said you would slow it down this roll? You have had a roll everyday since becoming a Porter! You keep going girl!"Well, I am going to slow down, but I put all of my remaining 1st round books at the top of my 2nd round, and these tend to be books I can finish within a day. My later books in the list are much longer.
Kateloves2read wrote: "I am now at the half way mark for Bleak House. 🥳"That’s a monster of a book. Congrats!
Kateloves2read wrote: "I am now at the half way mark for Bleak House. 🥳"So you basically have already 1 500 page or 2 250 page books 😝
Joanne wrote: "Kateloves2read wrote: "I am now at the half way mark for Bleak House. 🥳"So you basically have already 1 500 page or 2 250 page books 😝"
My copy had 1000 pages I think
Kateloves2read wrote: "Just to confirm Anita, I am only half way through my book. I thought we had to post our review before requesting another roll."Kate You’re in the first round of the game so you can request your next roll now. The new stricter rule applies only to later rounds.
Kateloves2read wrote: "Thanks Nancy! Excited to see where I am on the train next."
Yes, just to confirm, Nancy has it exactly right. Anyone who is still playing on their initial gameboard may continue to request a roll at the 50% mark.
All the new rules only apply to people who have gotten through their initial round of the gameboard.
Rolls for 1/31Olivermagnus 5
Nicole 2-1
Nicole D 6-4
Kateloves2read 3-4
Joy D 4
Hannah 5-1
Nicole D, your surprise advantage is you may request 3 rolls at once and select which roll you want to use. This may be done at any time, at your request.
Kateloves2read wrote: "Because I rolled a 7, I am reading the book I landed on. That brings me to my #13 once I finish my first roll."Kate, it is fine to mark your 50% roll so you know where you are going, but you should only have the the book you are currently reading bolded-thanks from your friendly scorekeeper 😁
@MargieD-you also have 2 books bolded-only the book you are reading should be bolded-thank you so much
Joanne wrote: "@MargieD-you also have 2 books bolded-only the book you are reading should be bolded-thank you so much"Fixed. sorry about that
Kate! You are starting to move! Come join me in the baggage car and meet Gnarly the Cat! I have warm pizza and chilled Moscato. My subdue book is not coming in any time soon at the library. May have to Amazon it. But I don't need it until after I read the Gown, which is after I finish When Stars Go Dark, which is moving very very slowly. So I will be in the baggage car awhile unless I roll an 11 or 12 after Attribution.
Second Class Lounge! Head's up!Enjoy your new renovated train car! Here is the new art deco drinks cabinet

While Olivermagnus and NancyJ continue to enjoy the pleasures of the Caboose, JoyD and her magic trunk have settled into the Baggage Car and is distracting Gnarly from the jigsaw puzzles being assembled. Looks like she has some kind of feathery toy on a string she's teasing Gnarly with.

I'm going to enjoy my time here especially after sleeping on some lumpy luggage in the baggage car.
Theresa wrote: "While Olivermagnus and NancyJ continue to enjoy the pleasures of the Caboose, JoyD and her magic trunk have settled into the Baggage Car and is distracting Gnarly from the jigsaw puzzles being asse..."Yes, I am enjoying playing with Gnarly. Cats are my reading buddies.
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁KateNZ has entered the Private Parlor Car!
Staff has fully restocked and are eager to serve and make you comfortable.
It is delightful in here. There is excellent lighting for stitching, I can plug my phone in to the AV system to be able to listen to my audiobooks, and there’s a lovely reading nook when I want to curl up with print. The tea is delicious. And there is a fabulous selection of single malt whiskies. I may be here for a while.
The second class lounge looks wonderful! Love the art deco cabinets. Will I ever get there? I feel like I will be stuck in baggage forever! Gnarly and I are getting along better. We seem to be developing a bit of an understanding. We tolerate each other, with just a hint or warming up. Cats are fickle. I did however, have a nice visit with Holly in the baggage car, our roving mobile librarian, and we were able to delight in having found we finished the same book at the same time! Jen K just read it too, but I don't know where she is. I think she might be in the car ahead. The puzzles are a great distraction from reading for sure. I am thrilled about Joy's magic Hermione trunk. Maybe there is a wand in there, in case Gnarly starts acting up again.
@Amy, I'm also in the baggage car but Theresa's renovations have convinced me to move up to second class. The décor looks luxurious.

Rummage through Joyce's trunk, perhaps a copy of your book is buried in there!
