@kateloves2read I learned long ago there are some super fast readers in this group and to not measure my reading against theirs. You are reading, which from your user name is something you like to do, and that is what matters. There are a a lot of us who are taking the slower train ride which will likely take closer to a year for many of us and that is fine. I'm enjoying my slow journey and the time in the caboose and eventually I will reach the locomotive.

Rachel N has stated it well! There are even some fast readers still in the Caboose because for any number of reasons, they are taking a slower trip around the board. There is also a certain amount of luck in the rolls that plays in. I did a similar game board based reading challenge last year with friends that included going around the board multiple times before there was a winner. I had one round that took 8 rolls! Another only took 1 roll.

That’s awesome. The completely different settings will keep you from mixing them up. My reading changed a lot after I joined this group. Every time I read a great review in this group I find another book I want to read. It’s great.

Wow that's quite a different experience from reading a couple of cozy mysteries or Regency romances! That's where you get to enjoy the journey. For the Birthday challenge, I think I will take on reading A Fine Balance, which is over 600 pages.

As a fellow caboose-er, my situation is that I'm reading other books besides the ones in this game. 2022 for me was a big game/reading competition/reading challenge year for me and this year, I'm being more laid back about all of these things. I'm glad the game continues on for those of us that aren't through our board yet! 🚆

ATTENTION: Joanne is vacating the Caboose! A chaise is finally being freed up in the Caboose Reading Nook [they are bolted and soldered to the floor - she isn't taking it with her]. Who's next on waiting list and still in the Caboose?

Knowing how scatterbrained she has been lately, someone make sure Joanne leaves witha full sippy cup and her doggy bag.

Baggage Car - ready or not, the next phalanx is starting to arrive. Poker players with piles of chips in front of them might want to speed up their audiobooks and cash them in before the newbies arrive to join in. You have a bit of time as Joanne doesn't listen to audiobooks so is unlikely to join in unless she plans to put her book aside and stay awhile.

But I have a question. I would still move 10, right? I just realized the book I have there is #2 of a series where I haven't yet read #1. Not sure if the other one is on my Subdue list or what. If I wanted to use my special advantage of skipping one for that book, would I just get another roll at that point? Or would I use it like an extra Swap, where I can read another book of at least the same length? (I still have to finish my current book in any case)

Yes, you do move 10, and if that lands you on the book you want to skip, that's fine. Then you should request another roll tomorrow.
