Daniel Haight | 49 comments Many of you may be familiar with David Brin. I've been a fan of his for years and we struck up a conversation out of your mutual interest in being scifi authors. I got a chance to meet him when he came to SETI in the Bay Area to participate in a discussion about contacting life on other worlds. Very lively discussion - I was surprised.

Spoke with him afterwards, gave him the hard copies of my books that I promised and he signed my copy of The Postman.

Love doing what I do - it's helped me meet so many awesome people. Who is the coolest Scifi person you ever met?

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5196 comments Hm, interesting question. I have mad love for Larry Niven's books, but despite meeting him several times, have always found him to be a cold fish in person. I respect and admire the guy, but can't imagine dinner conversation with him.

Meanwhile, I had little in common with Forrest J Ackerman, but he was so gracious and so friendly that it overcame any divide in interest. I'm not into monsters and Metropolis wasn't near the revelation for me that it was for him, but I would have a meal with him any time. Did, in fact. He would take fans out after giving his semi-regular house tour, and I once took him to lunch one on one. A great man and a great fan.

Steven Paul Leiva (goodreadscomuser_stevenpaulleiva) David Brin is a great guy, aan always fascinating thinker, and a fine storyteller. I had him speak at the dedication of Ray Bradbury Square in Los Angeles, and he kindly wrote a wonderful foreword to my book of essays, Searching for Ray Bradbury: Writings about the Writer and the Man. Glad you got to spend some time with him, Daniel.

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments I met David Brin at a book signing for Glory Season. He was really engaging, asking questions of the audience instead of just talking. He's a college professor, and I thought it would be really cool to take one of his classes. Being the kind of student I had been, I answered his questions when nobody else spoke up. When I got up to get my book signed, he asked me a few questions about myself and wrote a really personal epigraph instead of merely writing his signature. That book is one of my prized possessions.

No confusion meant ... I x-posted my experience to the SciFi and Fantasy Book Club. That's okay, right?

Trike | 11211 comments Ah... I don't know why that didn't occur to me. Brain fart.

I already mentioned that I met Ray Harryhausen and Chuck Jones, so I don't think I can trump that in SFF. I've met a lot of comic book artists, like John Byrne and Skottie Young, does that count?

Of course they do - love comic book artists and animators - here's a pic of me photobombing Phil Ortiz: http://i.imgur.com/2y29opi.jpg
