I knew the four of them would survive. It's been a few weeks since I listened to this book, so I don't recall exactly what happened. I do know that even though each of them thought that the person they loved was dead or dying, they didn't stop doing their job. They continued to go along with their plans to stop Gordie Junior.
Suzanne Brockmann has a great way for ending these books with high stress, high energy endings and this one was just fantastic.
This is a romance novel, not a thriller. As such, I knew the four main characters would survive. All 4 were very impressive in their given situations and their willingness to sacrifice themselves for others and for the great good.
I missed this question. I agree with Lauren. I expected them to get through the op. I couldn't see Brockman bring us to these point then having a funeral for one of the main characters.
I knew they’d survive but thought Martell Griffin was a goner. Brockmann also doesn’t hold back in seriously injuring her characters so I was extremely worried about Annie when Foley was beating her. That scene was tough.
The tension was almost unbearable because we were going back and forth between the Ric & Jules and Annie & Robin. I actually was drawn more to Annie & Robin as they were the two civilians who were rising above their fears. That moment when Annie told Robin he needed to take a drink to stop those shakes and had the alcoholism talk with him was outstanding. She had the right words for him.

Jonetta wrote: "I knew they’d survive but thought Martell Griffin was a goner. "Yes, I thought he was a goner too. In fact, this was a feeling I had throughout the book - that he was a Red Shirt ala Star Trek.
I agree that the scenes with Robin and Annie were more nerve-wracking because they were untrained civilians. They both handled themselves so well.
