2023 Q1 8 - A Book Set On an Island

Red Island House was so well-written. It depicted some of those 'ethical dilemmas' associated with the rich living amongst the poor in a luxurious tropical island setting.
I purchased a copy of Island of the Aunts for $1 from my favorite used bookstore a couple of years ago and have yet to read it. Perhaps now!
As I'm entering data for Thin Air, I realized that any of the installments in Ann Cleeves' Shetland Island series would work for this prompt!

LOL YES!!! I was really surprised you were looking for a book for this, when I know you've been marathoning Ann Cleeves, and her Shetland Island series is exactly what I have in mind for myself on this category.

I read it a few years ago, it was really dull for me - it's a children's classic, but it wasn't super juvenile. Only the first part is on the boat, they do eventually land on the island.
So far as classics set on islands go, I preferred The Island of Dr. Moreau & The Mysterious Island

Set in Japan, it tells the story of a German academic who travels to Japan after dreaming that his wife is having an affair. He meets (or does he?) a suicidal student, and they embark on a journey to the pine islands of Matsushima, in the footsteps of the poet Basho, who invented the haiku form of poetry.
The book compares past and present Japan, but it is never clear what is real and what is a dream. An interesting book.

Any island: tropical island, temperate island, arctic island, small island, big island, deserted island, settled island, vacation island, horror island. You could even read a book set in England or Ireland, if that's what you want to do (although that's not what I think of when I think of an "island").
There are already a bunch of Listopias for this topic, and at first I thought about not creating one, but then I went ahead and created one anyway. Inside "our" Listopia, I include links to all the other relevant Listopias I found. When I added books, I included a note about which island or island chain they are set on, because it's not always obvious.
