Hi Klowey. I will be reading here next year and hope to read some José Borges books. Let me know if you would be interested in reading together The Aleph and Other Stories -or- The Book of Sand and Shakespeare's Memory. I would like that.

I'm reading some of this in preparation for our 2024 Borges buddy reads, and also as part of one of my Personal Challenges, to read Borges.
I'm in a buddy read for The Man Without Qualities for Jan-Mar so for those three months I will be focusing on that and perhaps the Fin-de-Siècle Vienna: Politics and Culture. Borges' short stories might fit into that schedule. From April on . . . my reading list time is open for my other Bingo books, including Borges.
When you start one or the other in 2023, please let me know about 1 week in advance. I go collect book from library then I catchup with you.

Wonderful selection, Klowey! I'm especially interested in your thoughts on Fin-de-siecle Vienna since it is a theme I've chosen for my challenges too.
I'll be starting it soon since I'm reading it also in conjunction with our The Man Without Qualities buddy read.
I meant to read The Man Without Qualities with a group last year but it turned out to be too big a commitment for me at the time. I'm still curious about it though.
We are doing a buddy read right now, Jan-Mar.Join us. Fed is leading it and is amazing!
There is a lot of good information in the thread about supplementary books to enhance your experience and provide a context for the novel.

Uh... I'm also supposed to read Parade's End this quarter, so maybe a bit much. On the other hand life is too short to read only one big book at the time. I'm tempted. I'll have a look.

I understand.
By the way, I have wanted to read A Ballad for Georg Henig but cannot find an English version available. I see that you read it. Any ideas where I could find it?

Oh. I found that in a second hand bookstore in Hay-on-Wye, which is basically used book Mecca in Wales. It has a population of approx 1500 people and over 20 bookstores plus an annual literature festival. Have you tried looking on Abe Books or similar sites?
😮I will keep looking. I think I did try Abe, but out-of-print books come and go, so I might find it sometime. And Hay-on-Wye - what a darling name for a village/town. I will have to visit some time.
I went once to Hay-on-Wye and it is heaven. I need to go back and spend a whole day or two, not just a couple of hours :O)
I went to Hay-on-Way on my 40th birthday on a mission to buy 40 books. A Ballad for Georg Henig was part of that book haul. (I think I managed 32, and then went home and bought 8 more books online.)
You have made some.progress here. I know you are reading and studying Borges. When I catch my breath next month, I wil review The Aleph and continue on a bit more too.Best of luck with your challenges!

No rush. I'm about to skip ahead to The Zahir and then The Aleph.
As for the BINGO, I keep changing my mind. lol.
This is a challenging BINGO year, however I am absolutely loving the books. Some rereads of favorites and some new authors that have been great and that I look forward to recommending at the year's end.O Down BINGO
Wobbley wrote: "Well done on your Bingo. It's great that you're enjoying so many of the books!"Thank you Wobbley.
Cynda wrote: "Your 0 Down bingo is thought-provoking stuff Klowey! Well done."Thank you Cynda. "Memories of the Future" is very unusual. By a 1920s Russian author whose work was banned during his lifetime and kept in archives until the 1970s.
It's a bit of the surreal/absurd, but apparently his political criticism still couldn't remain hidden behind that.
The other 4 are definitely recommended.
