Bewitching (Regency Magic #1) by Jill Barnett
Bewitching by Jill Barnett

Join us in reading this HR that features the theme overlooked heroine. Happy reading!

Synopsis:

THE BEST MAGIC OF ALL IS THE KIND THAT MAKES LOVE COMES TRUE ...

Alec, Duke of Belmore, did as he pleased --- and he wanted to marry the beautiful, bubbly girl who had positively bewitched him: Joyous MacQuarrie, who had appeared from nowhere and turned stately Belmore Park upside down with merriment and mischief. It hardly mattered that her Scottish bloodline was shrouded in mystery. But Alec's heated desire turned ice-cold when he discovered that this winsome lady was, in fact, a witch --- whose powers of white magic were not always perfectly under control ...

Too late, Joy knew she was desperately in love and that nothing could stop the course of their destiny --- the scandal threatening to destroy her and the passion that held them both spellbound in a forbidden, irresistible match.

Petra | 142 comments I started reading very very slowly but I’m having trouble with the author’s writing style. Just finished chapter 2. But I’m still curious about the story.

I love her watching Lady McBeth. So funny :) One of my favorite scenes in the book.

Lauren | 1373 comments I finished the book! As much as I love this book, I didn't enjoy it as much as I usually do. I tend to read JB and Julie Garwood books when I'm in a slump or feeling sad. These are the books that make me happy. I didn't enjoy reading Bewitching as much this month because it was required BOTM reading. Does that make sense? It was still entertaining, but I just wasn't in the mood.

Well, I read all four books this month! I'm proud of myself. YAy!!!!

Cath | 370 comments Wow all 4 books, that is impressive. Congrats!

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments Lauren, wow that is great! I started this one but am in a reading funk... so I have been starting and dropping several books.

Lauren | 1373 comments Thanks, Cath and Merry! I'm kinda proud of myself.

@Merry, I understand not reading the books this month. Most had a very modern voice for a hr. That's not my kind of book. Bewitching, though, is one of those books you should save when you're in the mood.

Wow! That is impressive. Well done! I did feel some of them were too modern in flavour for my HR tastes, but glad you and no doubt many others were able to enjoy them. I did read and enjoy the novella (The Courstship), but it was a reread for me. I might still read the Joanna Shupe before the end of the month, maybe.

@Merry I am a little like you at the moment, in a bit of a reading slump, trying and discarding different books, chopping and changing from one book to another. I feel like some of my fav HR authors haven't brought out anything new for ages. I'm craving a new Lisa Kleypas! :(

Merry in and out for the next few days (jewelhound) | 855 comments I do plan on reading next month's book Snow Angel as it has been a book I have looked forward to reading.

Petra | 142 comments Congrats Lauren on reading all 4 books. I really tried to give Bewitching a go and it kept my interest somewhat but I’m going to drop it at 35% in.
It’s too fantastical and the prose is overly descriptive yet it’s not helping me to imagine the world. I keep thinking about the author sentence structure and how strange it is and it pulls me out of the story.

Lauren | 1373 comments Thanks, Jan and Petra! It's been a while since I read all the books for the month. I had to push myself cause I've been in a reading slump myself.

Merry, I hope you enjoy Snow Angel next month. I don't know if it's my kind of book, but it's worth a try.

@Petra, I'm sorry you didn't like this book. This type of silly isn't for everyone.

I enjoyed this one. It was witty and the characters were well developed.

Has anyone read the second book in the series? About the Earl and Letitia? I can see that there is no third book, so I guess the Viscount doesn't get his tale to tell.

I thought I had read Jill Barnett before and not liked here, but I have no history of reading her past books on my kindle or in GR...so perhaps I was mistaken...maybe I will give her another go as an author...any suggestions for other books of hers??

message 21: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 265 comments I finally finished this book. It took forever. There were things I really liked about the book followed by chapters that dragged on endlessly. The humor was great. I loved the hair-eating weasel. The wacky witchcraft was a blast. I didn't like the hero at all. Why the heck was Joy in love with this stick in the mud right from the get go? Reading this was a real up and down experience.

Lauren | 1373 comments I love Jill Barnett 's wacky humour! I also love how different the H is in the epilogue. Helping his daughter with her magic was sweet.
