I believe there is a movie version out or about to be released - I have no intention of seeing it until I've read the book and some time has passed. This needs to be read first and then, later, watched. Maybe.

JoAnne always finds the cutest little dragon avatars for Christmas....
HayJay, regarding the Island of Missing Trees (which is on Sally's list too, that I am reading for my IRL local book club for 1/29,) it also fits a Happy Birthday PBT Challenge for February. It's actually a Jewish thing. We have this serious holiday that is entirely focused on trees, right in the middle of February, when winter is at its barest. It is called Tu B'Shevat. And I think the trees in the book are actually fig trees, which makes the connection that much more solid and strenghtened. So thought you might want to know it doubles as a February challenge book.

It is a dragon in a tea cup, both decked out for the holidays

Heather, I am pretty sure Hamnet is a 5 star of Anita's and that Tomorrow X3 is a Five Star of Nicole R's.
Tomorrow caught my eye because it is somewhere high on my TBR as well. As is Priory. But my Trim List is overfilled.

Yes, Dune Messiah is the second book! put a lot of "next book in the series" books on this list to try to get myself to continue the series I enjoyed starting from the last couple of years.
I'm happy to buddy read with anyone if I get around to it! Unfortunately my dad's health failing in 2022 taught me the best laid plans don't always go the way you want them to. Last year I put two titles on each number so that I could choose one I preferred so there would be less pressure. I kind of want to get to both this year since it's a shorter list, but that might be overambitious of me.
@Kate - I'm really determined to get to both Black Company and Dragons of Autumn Twilight this year. Two of my best friends have been raving about the Dragonlance Chronicles for years!
@Amy - I've heard so many good things about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow that I had to put it on there. Even my therapist recommended it to me, LOL.
Update for Trim Picker For January: The Days are getting close! Thanks to some sage advice from one of our dearests, since I had no way to contact Purple Jen the Educator, and we hadn't seen her in awhile, I planned instead, to ask one of our new members, (Kate or Ann) to do the honors for January. Our sage friend reminded me that Purple Jen did tell us she was extremely busy and was going dark for awhile. But because I was so crazy busy, (still), I didn't have the time to post the change and invitation to Kate or Ann, nor did I even write back Sage Friend, or Beautiful HayJay, who sent me such lovely notes. I will get to that.
Then... Last night, out of nowhere - Purple Jen showed up and wrote a review. So I commented on the review and invited her to pick for January if she is interested. But since the days are growing close....
Kate - would you like to be our back up Trim Picker for January? It looks like this. After Anita announces the January tag (around 12/22. 12/23, you look at your list - or the buddy reads list, or you pick at random, and you pick a number 1-12. that the group will read in January. If we get to it of course. Its a really relaxed challenge. But by getting to see what the tag is first, you can pick a book on your shelf or on the buddy reads list that you like. And you post it on this thread, and then that is our number. Would you like to be our back up picker? Back up to you is Joanne - as she is always my Trim backup and donated her turn this year.
Gotta run friends - love and light to everyone!
I am sure Kate will agree to be our picker, but you know I am always here Amy. And before I forget again- Happy Hanukkah AND the same wishes to anyone else who celebrates!
Meant to say or imply the same. Only because my 9AM is later (later than I was) can I even pipe in. Maybe a moment for FB while I await my supervisee?
If Jen does not turn it up, and I’m kind of assuming she won’t, it’s you. So get ready. You’re in with us now.

Kate will be an excellent backup picker, and Jen may just pop in at the right moment. You can also count on me or I'm sure any number of others who participate. I do love the idea of giving the newbies the treat of doing it as backups though. What a great idea.
Shelly - we all have Aperigon at number one if you want to shift it. Also, it’s on my list of things that fit one of the 15 candles. I’m gonna go ahead and say it because I have that steel trap memory. That’s usually so good, that Fran gave it a five star. Theresa, Joanne already gave up her spot for you. You’re going to pick very soon. But yes, I thought we would all appreciate the idea of giving the newbies a pick. Ann, we have not forgotten about you. And are thrilled that you joined us this year for Trim.

@Amy,If Apeirogon gets called, I may jump into the buddy read. I numbered the books only to be sure I had 24!
Jen says she is coming to pick! She also said she's managed to (almost) finish the Trim Challenge this year. But don't worry Kate and Ann. We are coming back for you. Its only January after all....
As it turns out, the lovely BooknBlues wrote to me and said she wants you to have her turn for February! And we will get Ann in there too this year. So Kate, you are next up!

Hi Sue,
I saw Shergill Sisters on your list and wanted to let you know I'd be interested in a Buddy Read as I have this book sitting on my shelf. I am committed to two other Buddy Reads at #6 so wanted to see if there was a possibility you could move this to a different number should you be interested in a Buddy Read.
Hi Hayjay - Happy to move Shergill Sisters! The only other buddy read I have is at #9. So any number other than 9 works for me. Let me know and I'll rearrange.

It will be lovely to read this with you Sue and we can of course see if others want to join! I've placed it at #3.
Hayjay315 wrote: "It will be lovely to read this with you Sue and we can of course see if others want to join! I've placed it at #3."Perfect - I'll update my list now.
The January number is #1So my options are 1) Apeirogon/The Island/9 From the Nine Worlds
2022 has been a really shit year so I haven't really been reading much and figured I would not manage to complete most challenges and just focused on TRIM. 8 jobs at one point to pay the bills. Think trim will be all I try to do next year as the first PBT tag holds zero interest and I can't see getting out the other side to read heaps in the near future.
Oh! I was hoping for that! My #1 is a mystery - Murder on Capitol Hill by Margaret Truman. It will be a nice light change of pace of political chicanery in DC from the Jan 6 hearings. 🤣
OK - I am starting January 2023 with a bang! First, there is the Tag Buddy Read - The Lager Queen of Minnesota, which fits the candle for a five star read for a Mod. Then... Aperigon is another larger buddy read - but... It fits the Candle for Top Ten Lists. I have a second on my list for Trim - and that is Songs of Ursa Major. This is now three buddy reads with HayJay to be attempted to be completed by the end of January - although we have been known to take our time. So friends - I will post a thread for both buddy reads on January 1. Apeirigon and The Lager Queen.
Oops. I meant to post my Trim List by now but I've been out sick. Trim for 2023
1. Apeirogon*
2. The Tsar of Love and Techno
3. Dear Mrs. Bird*
4. Inland
5. Serpent & Dove
6. The Immortalists
7. Women Talking*
8. Ready Player Two*
9. The Forty Rules of Love*
10. The Salt Line
11. Little Bee
12. The Art of Hearing Heartbeats
Ready for the buddy read for #1.
Maybe it was Fran for whom Aperigon was the five star read. But it’s also a top 10 I can tolerate. I had almost none of those. I’ve already read most of them, or weren’t interested.

Oh, nice!
We'll see how the numbers get pulled and the year goes.
If you can join me for any of these that would be great!
I feel like Women Talking might be the most interesting to discuss of these.
