Mmmm, sounds like some hidden gems that I need to look into. Thanks, Patricia.

Completed: The Inquisitor's Key
3 Stars, because I love the series.
It was just meh, for me. This could have been so interesting, but the overtures of romance amongst colleagues was ad nauseam. The childish banter and jealousy from Dr Brockton, is just stupid. The scientific stuff was okay and the rare moments of mystery and tension; but this was just a poor entry in the series.
Edit: I read this a month ago and forgot to add it on this thread. 🤦🏾

Completed: The Hanging Garden
3.5 Stars
This was decent; but not the usual police procedural and action that we normally get with Rebus. I think there were too many cases going all at once; even though they all tied in together; it was just too much. It was enjoyable, as usual. Rebus is a mess, but not as broken as Bosch or Harry Hole.
Decent entry, but I am hoping we get back to the police procedural that we know and love.

Completed: Dead Souls
4 Stars
Great pacing, and per usual; there are many separate mysteries going on, with 1 commonality. This one did not leave me frustrated with Rebus' decisions. Also, he encountered a foe (Oakes) that was hard to figure out. I don't think Rebus ever fully understood true motives, end-game, etc with Oakes. I know I didn't.
There were some resolutions, but nothing is ever tidy with Rebus and the criminals he deals with.
** 12+4 officially completed!! I really had no idea.
This year was a struggle; or moreso, this summer. I skipped reading in favor of gardening and dealing with a living room remodel that was NOT planned 🤦🏾.
I am not sure about completing all 14; but I may do so.
has been a terror, but not in a bad way really. It's just such a dense book; but it is really good. I am hoping to finish it this weekend and finish off Cut to the Bone, next weekend.
I do feel quite accomplished with digging at those series. Even making progress on 1 or 2, is quite satisfying.

I think you need another list..... 🤣
How to go Alondra. Great job completing your challenge. I think this might be the first year I won't complete mine.

This list was actually comforting, because of the series. I feel good about it. ☺️

I tried. I was very distracted, but in a good way; from reading. I though I had 2 more to go. I don't feel as much pressure, but I am behind on the overall challenge by a book or 2. 🤦🏾

Thank you, Alissa!!
1) Not just one. I really loved Stiletto; Lovecraft Country and The Sun Down Motel. They were all so different and sooooo good!
Thanks for asking.
2).... now, Alissa. We can't all be awesome like you. I've never done a 2nd list; and I won't start now. I do hope to one day jump on that train; but I would have to be way ahead on my series.

It feels fabulous, because I really didn't read much over the summer. Then once I did read, I felt good doing it. ☺️

Completed: The Terror
3.5 Stars
Just because I gave this 3.5 Stars, doesn't mean I didn't like it. I enjoyed it ... mostly; but it was dense; my God, was it dense. Everyone has an opinion and a tale to tell, in this novel.
The NY Times said it best about the length: "Where are we going and why, and will the whole grueling experience be worth it? Or are we just stuck in something we can’t seem to get out of?"
I kept wondering what is the ultimate end to this?? Will this NF crew get saved; unlike, the real crew?? Will there be retribution, safe passage or at least revenge for the survivors of man and beast?? The end did not justify the means, for me. It seemed quite ant-climactic and seemed to lose steam once the crew had a reckoning.
Dan Simmons knows how to write, so I really enjoyed all of the writing; it was just too much. I loved the descriptions of what the crews were up against and I was hungry, cold and bewildered; just like them. I felt all of it, and you will too.
I do recommend the reading of this book; I just don't highly recommend it.
P.S. I started in June; put it down to enjoy my summer, and really picked it back up in September. Sheesh.

Thanks, Lea. I do feel accomplished, but so much time was spent on this doorstopper. Like you said, it was enjoyable and mostly entertaining.
I'm surprised I am done. I really thought I would be kicking at it in December. LOL
