Been looking so hard for this book I might've read around 2008-2012 possibly. The main thing i remember about the book was that the cover was scalloped on one corner / looked like it had a big bite taken out of it!

The story was possibly related to a young kid/boy living in ancient rome? It may also have had something to do with him fighting as a gladiator in one of the colosseums? There may have been animals involved.

The book itself may have had multiple different stories of which this was only one. But the main identifier is definitely the cover.
