Is Catherine the Regency version of the women who are obsessed with true crime today?

When I read this book, all I could think of was how much Catherine's obsession with gothic literature resembled the true crime podcast listeners of today. Being one of those myself, I could absolutely relate!

This is perfect! Part of it is her maturity, but part is her curious personality (which of course Mr. Tilney loves!)
