I think I read this about 10 years ago, and it might have been relatively new then. I don't think it's older than early 2000s.

If my memory serves me correctly, it began with the protagonist- a smart young girl- falling off a swing (or something similar) and getting a concussion. She gets sent to this experimental medical therapy place in either a swamp or specifically the Florida Everglades. I don't remember much of the rest except for the fact she and the other kids there are unknowingly receiving some sort of gene therapy that inserts the DNA of dead geniuses (Einstein, Curie, etc). They try to escape and someone? gets mauled by an alligator.
