Definite variety you've chosen. I've read The Winter People. The rest are all new to me. Good luck.

I read "If We Were Villains" a couple of years ago. It was really well written!

message 4: by Alissa (new)

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1802 comments I loved how you set this up!! Amazing!!

message 5: by Denise (new)

Denise (drams5) | 323 comments Lincoln in the Bardo is one of the weirdest books I've ever read. I really liked The Winter People and Beartown. Beartown is a little darker than some of his other books, but so good.

The rest of yours are new to me. Report back!

message 6: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 505 comments Definitely variety here, Denise! Enjoy!

message 7: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 353 comments I am reading Crossroads its so good

message 8: by Lea (new)

Lea (leaspot) | 3635 comments I love variety! I hope that you enjoy reading these books. I read The Reader, All the Birds in the Sky, The Winter People and Beartown. Of those, my favorite was Beartown, I have the third book in the series on my 12 + 4 list this year too. Hope you enjoy your books!

message 9: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Thank you everyone. Lincoln on the Bardo I have been on the fence about so I may change it before the year is up. Alternates I am considering are Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens or The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

message 10: by Denise (new)

Denise (drams5) | 323 comments Haven't read The Vanishing Half, but for whatever it's worth I liked Where the Crawdads Sing better than Lincoln in the Bardo. 😉

message 11: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 705 comments I really liked The Winter People and The Reader, but very sad. Lincoln in the Bardo I am very mixed on. Some parts I loved.

Same here, Bonnie. I think it's worth reading for those passages, but wasn't a favorite of mine. Parts of the book were really beautiful.

Jackie | 1103 comments At least 4 are on my tbr. I didn't want to look further in case it would cause me to add more books. Good luck!

This is a great mix, Denise!!

I know you will do well on this list, as always.

Good luck and happy reading!!

message 15: by Ioana (new)

Ioana | 2126 comments The Winter People, Inside the O'Briens and Beartown are all very good. Alternate or not, I hope you get to read Beartown and the following ones in the series. Happy reading!

Nice idea to have different genres for your list. The only one I've read is The Sanatorium which I enjoyed.

message 17: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Completed Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur , gave it 4 stars. Word are powerful and this poetry collection was just that. It is amazing how one can put together words that just speak to you. I don't normally read poetry, but I enjoyed this collection very much. Some of the poetry was a little too erotic for me, but others were like they were reading the thoughts in my mind and were articulated on paper. What I took from her words are that we don't need a man to get thru life and to love ourselves first.

message 18: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Second one completed. Finished The Atlas Six (The Atlas, #1) by Olivie Blake , 4 stars. I loved the character development in this story, this was also part of the downfall of the story as the plot was slow to get to. Much of the book is centered between 7 POV's that it can get confusing where you are and what you are reading. By the end of the book the plot starts to make sense. I hope that the second book answers some of the questions that still need answered.

message 19: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Third one completed. Finished Beartown (Beartown, #1) by Fredrik Backman , 4 stars. This book took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. At first it was confusing and hard to get into but I glad that I stuck to it. A great read. I am sure there will be more Fredrick Bachman books in my future.

There are 2 more in this series, I wholeheartedly recommend them both. Read them in order and expect your heart to be broken.

Would you recommend reading this one in print/ebook vs listening it to it as an audiobook?

message 22: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia , gave it 3 stars. The beginning was slow and strange which made it hard to get into. The last part of the book was better.

I'm glad you stuck with it. This series is worth it, IMO. I love Frederik Backman.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished How I Saved the World by Jesse Watters , gave it 4 stars. I have been watching his shows since he was on The O'Reilly Factor and love it. The book was amusing and thoughtful.

message 26: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Completed The Sanatorium (Detective Elin Warner, #1) by Sarah Pearse 4 stars, and Cross Roads by William Paul Young 4 stars. 7 down, 5 more to go.

Glad to hear you like the Jesse Watters book - I have been considering picking this one up.

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio , 4 stars. I am not much of a Shakespeare fan so I skipped over these scenes quickly but overall a good book.
4 books left.

message 29: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished The Reader by Bernhard Schlink , gave it 4 stars. Wanted to read this because I am a fan of Kate Winslet but hadn't seen the movie yet. It was a little difficult for me in the beginning because I didn't agree with what she was doing with a teenage boy. I was a little disappointed in the end but overall it was a good book.

I read it awhile ago and also gave it 4 stars- for the writing- but didn't care for the characters (don't actually remember the end.)

message 31: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished All the Birds in the Sky (All the Birds in the Sky, #1) by Charlie Jane Anders , gave it 4 stars. I enjoyed the style of writing and how the writer seems to make the characters come to life. I was a bit disappointed in the ending.

message 32: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments 11 down, 1 to go. Finished All of Us Villains (All of Us Villains, #1) by Amanda Foody , gave it 5 stars. Once I started this book I couldn't put it town. It was a darker twist on the Hunger Games concept. There was so much to love about this book, the characters, the storyline and the cliffhanger it leaves at the end. The chapters alternate from the characters points of view. It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more. So looks like I will be getting the next book so I can see how the story plays out. My only regret is that I hadn't picked up this book sooner to read.

message 33: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Completed The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon , gave it 4 stars. I not surprised that I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed the other books I have read by Jennifer McMahon.

Ioana | 2126 comments Congratulations for finishing the challenge, and with a good book, too. Will you read some or all of the others left on the list?

message 35: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments I might ready one or two just depends on my reading moods.
