Will Fang | 8 comments Hello Librarians,

I'd like to request the addition of this 40,000-word full-issue magazine story by Matt Levine: The Crypto Story. (https://www.bloomberg.com/features/20...)

* Title: The Crypto Story
* Author(s) name(s): Matt Levine
* ISBN (or ASIN): N/A
* Publisher: Bloomberg Businessweek
* Publication date: October 25, 2022
* Format: Periodical
* Page count: 101
* Description: There was a moment not so long ago when I thought, “What if I’ve had this crypto thing all wrong?” I’m a doubting normie who, if I’m being honest, hasn’t always understood this alternate universe that’s been percolating and expanding for more than a decade now. If you’re a disciple, this new dimension is the future. If you’re a skeptic, this upside-down world is just a modern Ponzi scheme that’s going to end badly—and the recent “crypto winter” is evidence of its long-overdue ending. But crypto has dug itself into finance, into technology, and into our heads. And if crypto isn’t going away, we’d better attempt to understand it. Which is why we asked the finest finance writer around, Matt Levine of Bloomberg Opinion, to write a cover-to-cover issue of Bloomberg Businessweek, something a single author has done only one other time in the magazine’s 93-year history (“What Is Code?,” by Paul Ford). What follows is his brilliant explanation of what this maddening, often absurd, and always fascinating technology means, and where it might go. — Joel Weber, Editor, Bloomberg Businessweek

I know this is a bit unorthodox, but after all, the most beloved Dickens novels also started as magazine stories, right? Also, I figured this would qualify as a "periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books".

Thank you for considering!

Edit: Another member pointed this out and I felt it worth adding: This piece is the only work in this issue of the magazine. There are no other articles or essays in it.

Individual magazine issues generally do not meet Goodreads criteria for addition to the database.

Despite being the only work in the magazine, this is still not a book. (Many magazines do also publish books, usually with more traditionally book-like covers and ISBNs.)

Thanks, rivka. Can you clarify what you mean by "book-life covers"?

As for the lack of ISBN, I noted that the qualification criteria specifically listed: "periodicals without ISBNs but substantially similar to books (e.g., perfectbound literary magazines), although they should be typed as "periodical" in the work: media type field"

Could you explain why this piece wouldn't meet this criteria?

By "book-like cover", I meant a hardcover or paperback binding. Rather than the slick magazine bindings.

This is definitely not a literary magazine.

Hmm, it seems a bit arbitrary to disqualify a work on the basis of the material of its cover or style of binding. But alas, if that's the rule, I will accept it.

Karim Haines | 4 comments A colleague in Toronto mentioned the AI Crypto Signal Group Platform https://aicryptosignalgroup.com during a chat about crypto tools. I explored it one evening and was impressed by how clean the user interface was. It's easy to navigate, and all the AI-generated data is presented clearly. It works seamlessly for me in Canada, with no weird restrictions.
