Vee (vilepixie) | 2 comments I think it was a 2-book series, and I could have sworn it was by Sue Townsend since it reminded me so much of The Diary of Adrian Mole, but I don't see it. The protagonist talks about very relatable things in a hilarious way. I remember reading it as a tween and was surprised that it addressed things like bras, periods, condoms, feeling pressured to have sex etc. as well as the usual crushes and fluff. She has an older sister who has a boyfriend. Character's name might be Suzie? The only thing I could find on Google was Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging by Louise Rennison, but that book came out much later than the one I'm trying to find.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5548 comments Maybe I'm A Health Freak Too! by Aidan MacFarlane and Anne McPherson? It's the sequel / companion to The Diary of a Teenage Health Freak, which is about a teenage boy named Peter - I'm A Health Freak Too is his sister Susie's diary instead.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5548 comments Just to add: there's a copy of I'm A Health Freak Too on archive.org, and she does have trouble buying tampons in France like you remember:
Went for a ‘promenade’ to suss out a magasin that might sell Tampax. Didn't like to ask Madame or Marie. How could I? Only just arrived and immédiatement I’m asking for Tampax. Madame doesn’t like me wandering around on my own. Wanted to send Marie’s younger brother with me. No way. At the local supermarché they were right up on the top shelf. Couldn't just sidle out with them. Had | to ask twice in my best French, ‘Avez-vous de Tampax si vous plait?’ Whole place—packed with old men—went silent. The shop assistant climbed up muttering, ‘De Tampax, de Tampax, toujours de Tampax’, pulled out the bottom one, and they all fell on his head along with a load of serviettes sanitaire. Quelle horreur! Trés, trés embarrassing.
