Set in England around wartime (unsure if WW1 or WW2) young female main character is bound magically to the kitchen hearth so she can't physically go very far and is a slave to the family after her father dies in the war. Turns out she has elemental fire magic and eventually gets away. I can't remember much else beyond it being sort of based on a Cinderella theme and the other books in the series dealing with each new character finding out they had an elemental magic

I probably read sometime between 2000 and 2010 and it wasn't new
Omg just doing some more vague googling and I found it Phoenix and ashes by Mercedes Lackey in her elemental mages series
