Bree, Erin and Adam were raised separately after their grandmother could handle the troubled Bree. How might their being separated affected their development? Was there any other alternative?

Being separated could have hurt the relationship between the siblings. Bree may have felt that she wasn't wanted by her grandmother.

If the grandmother couldn't handle Bree because she was acting out, she had to be moved. If the other kids were doing well under the grandmother's care, I doubt there were other options.

Being separated for sure impacted Bree as she wasn't able to be that protector to them anymore. Events of that night of course affected Bree the most being the oldest and having more of an "idea" of what was going on and she had a better feel of her Dad I felt than the siblings. I'm not sure how much from that night affected the brother since he was the baby at the time ~ granted he grew up without a male role model. It did seem to impact the sisters pick of men to have relationships with.

Separating them was the worst thing that could have happened in these circumstances as Bree lost her role as protector of her siblings, which must have felt like punishment. Her sister and brother had to have felt a sense of profound loss, even though Adam was too young to remember anything. They needed each other but the grandmother had her hands full.

I agree. They all must have lost any sense of family. They became strangers as they grew up.
