Buddy read for the Dozen Roses Game.

Please use spoiler tags and tell us which chapter, page, part or % it's about.

How to use spoiler tags:

(view spoiler)

Click on "(some html is ok)" in the top right corner of the text box (on desktop version) as you're typing your post to copy/paste the code. Or go to the html help page if you're not on the desktop version.

edit:

I am the most sorry but we have an earlier, more active buddy read thread for We, linked below, so I'm closing this one.

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments I started reading the book, but totally forgot to add it to GR and leave my impressions here.

I made little progress, only 17 pages so far.

First. Strong Orwell vibes.

Second. Maybe I need to take a peek at English translation of the book. I sincerely pity the translators who worked with this book. Have no idea how they managed to convey all the subtle hints at the realia that were contemporary for the book. If they actually managed to do that, they are real heroes.

We definitely missed some, but I thought my version was pretty dang good at getting some of the jokes and references across.

Who was the translator in your version? (if you can look it up, of course; if it's not in your library, don't bother)

Hmm...I think it's Gregory Zilboorg, 1924

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments Thanks, I'll try to find this translation to see how he managed to preserve a few of things that would have blown my brain if I were to translate this )))
