This was a very intense, moving book that was written based on historical research telling the story of women through a feminist perspective. As someone who is not religious, the subject matter was really intriguing, especially seeing Ana as a strong, independent women who wants to support the man she loves. There were detailed descriptions of the settings, both the time and place, and this, together with the writing, kept me interested all the way throughout the book.

I’ve become very interested in books with religious characters or topics. It’s a big part of culture and history. Though tbh, many of the books I read seem to be negative portrayals of the church, rather than about religious beliefs.

I find books about different religions and characters very interesting, despite not being religious myself. If only the book I'm currently reading - Haven - which features a priest who has set out to found a monastery in an isolated part of Ireland were as good as this book!
