I recently read one of the classics, Gulliver's Travels, published in 1726 by Irish author Jonathan Swift. Although he takes a snarky satirical view of the political climate of his times and cleverly places it into an imaginative world, I still found this a difficult book to fully enjoy as a modern reader. I'm impressed with all the research into the countries in which each book is set. It's like a travelogue: between the descriptions of the food, the language and the topography, I feel like I'm there. And the action is worthy of Clive Cussler!
