This would be an amazing book for this prompt! I would have used it, but I read this fantastic book last year. Seven-thirty is one of the best pet characters I have ever read.

Robson (robsonrc) | 4 comments I have read Pax for this one. I haven't found it in Listopia, but definitely it's a book with a pet character! :)

The absolute sweetest and best pup ever.

Karen Roettger (mileyh) | 6 comments Lessons in Chemistry has Six Thirty as a main character

Jessica (zumbajess) | 181 comments I am planning on reading Old Yeller for this prompt

Laurel Perez | 4 comments The Last House on Needless Street

This works and is a fun book. Sadly, I read it last year. I'm going to read Cujo because it's been on my TBR for a long time.

Heather (heatherbowman) | 909 comments I read Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen for this prompt.

The birds in this book are maybe only loosely pets. They're generally wild birds and (view spoiler) but most characters are unaware of this last part. One of the birds is invisible too so there's that.

Julie | 7 comments If you are still looking for a book with a pet character, I can't believe I forgot about the book Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones. This is a science fiction, fantasy, thriller! I gave it 5 stars. Loved it. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Teri (teria) | 1554 comments In a world of robots, does a robot pet of sorts count? One of my favorite characters of all time is Rambo from In the Lives of Puppets. Well, I'm using it anyway, even if it is a stretch. I can't bear for him to be left out.

Ron | 2720 comments I thought about skipping this prompt, but having seen the movie adaptation, I was reminded that this book had dogs in it:

The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
The Choice

message 62: by Jane (new)

Jane Fudger One of my favourites id "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck.

Lilith (lilithp) | 1084 comments I can't resist books with cats as major characters.
I fell in love with the cover of The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide. Then I fell in love with the characters.
And now I'm going to name my next cat Chibi.

message 64: by Laura Ruth (new)

Laura Ruth Loomis | 253 comments Any of the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich include Stephanie's hamster, Rex, and the later books include her boyfriend's always-hungry dog, Bob. They don't always have a big role, but in the upcoming "Dirty Thirty," Stephanie winds up dog-sitting.

Red Darkling by L. A. Guettler has a delightful glitchy robot cat named Bonk.

message 65: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 491 comments Blitzcat by Robert Westall.

The adventures of a cat in search of her owner during the Second World War. It is a interesting and varied description of the British Home Front, (although it's a Young Adult book, it pulls no punches), and also manages to tell the story without making the cat at all anthromorphic.

message 66: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 659 comments I read The Darkest Dark. It's a picture book, but Chris has a dog.

message 67: by Lisa Marie (new)

Lisa Marie Kemmerer (readingwithlisamarie) | 177 comments I read Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
So, many animals in this book because of the family owning a zoo :)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 272 comments I am reading The Cat Who Saved Books by Sōsuke Natsukawa. Just got out of a reading slump because of this book.
