2022: Festive side reads

I'm opening a thread to discuss Christmas mysteries for the 2022 season.

I read a lot of Christmas mysteries - it's one of my favorite parts of November/December. There's already been some discussion about a couple of them that members might be reading this year:

Mike Finn mentioned Murder After Christmas by Rupert Latimer. This one was re-issued by BLCC last year, and I have not yet read it. I had already put it on hold with my local library, and will also be reading it once I get my hands on it!

Jazzy also mentioned one of the Mrs. Bradley mysteries set over Christmas, Murder in the Snow by Gladys Mitchell. I read this one a couple of years ago, but it's available through the KU library for free under the title Groaning Spinney. We're going to reread it the weekend after the US Thanksgiving holiday.

Please feel free to add suggestions or other books you plan to read!

I get quite carried away with Christmas books. This year, I have my eye on Midwinter Murder: Fireside Tales from the Queen of Mystery, Mutts and Mistletoe, Mystery in White, and Murder Most Festive. May try to squeeze in a book from a local author, A Christmas Candy Killing.

I've got The Christmas Egg, A Surprise For Christmas: And Other Seasonal Mysteries, & Murder at Melrose Court lined up for this year. I am sure I will also reread Hercule Poirot's Christmas and Nine Tailors, as those typically feature in my holiday reading.

Christmas mysteries are fast becoming a staple of my holiday season. This year I was planning to read Lorna Nicholl Morgan's Another Little Christmas Murder, though I'm open to reading something else as well if the group votes on a holiday read to finish out the year.

Thanks, Mike! I'm in. I already bought Murder After Christmas based on an earlier post of yours, so thank you for that. I'm going to check out the other three recommendations. Is it weird to be enthusiastic about combining murder and Christmas? I guess I'm not going to overthink it!

I find a little murder can cut the cloying sweetness of the holiday season. Plus, they are the darkest days of the year--the Victorians enjoyed Christmas ghost stories. And if Richard Osman is to be believed (in The Bullet That Missed), "If murder were easy, none of us would survive Christmas.”
