Possession is a weird one... the Romani Gypsy is definitely a memorable one, tho... nearly a decade after reading, I vividly remember some details...

I hadn't even gotten that far last night. I read the follow-up in the hospital and the get-together. I stopped before Father Lopez said he had to leave.

I picked it up again this morning and am currently reading chapter 6.

It is an interesting one so far. But it feels like J.D. Robb is fighting her own supernatural story element -- like she doesn't want to commit.

*Shrug* I'll see how it goes.

I think the person they seek is in that building - alive, if even barely so.

[Edit to Add] Okay, the supernatural element is shining through.

We're past the halfway point on short stories... there's a bunch right now, then they taper off... then there's one around book 37 & 42 and that's about it...

Looking at the publication history, there were a couple short stories early in the series (non-paranormal ones)... and a couple later (37.5 and 41.5), but most were published between books 17 and 33, and that worked out to a short story every year, every other novel, since she publishes a book every 6 months... those are the majority of the paranormal short stories, and were all included in themed anthologies...

I remember that one... it's a really good one... rated it 5 stars, which became rarer later in the series, on my first readthrough, as I got tired of the "JD Robb tropes"

I cheated and ended up starting late last night. I am currently reading Chapter 11.

1. I don't think we've seen Peabody (view spoiler) before.
2. Eve should be ashamed of her assumptions about her guests. That wasn't fair to anyone.
3. I love Baby Bella!
4. I knew the (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I read the short story #29.5 and it was OK... Funny that I remembered everything about it, but wasn't blown away by it or anything... Maybe because the family was from Missouri...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments About 1/3 of the way in Fantasy in Death #30 ... As always, it really sucks when the victim is likable, kind of bright eyed and innocent... And you guys were right, this murder was surprising...

However, I can't believe nobody mentioned the "penis" conversation between Peabody and Eve!!! Hahaha!!! That was golden!!!

Also, the nice but airhead bimbo, was I the only one who could picture Sarah Jessica Parker in the "First Wives Club" movie? Only actually nice:))) That came out in 1996, but that whole scene could have been written with her and Morty in mind:)))

Sadly, this was not one of my favorites - but I enjoyed them celebrating Nadine.

I also liked Eve's display of love and concern for Roarke.
The two of them talk more as the series goes on - Eve opens up to him (a little) more about her fears & feelings. Their egos still get in their own way, but they seem to recover more quickly.

Reading Possession in Death...

That line "fuck off with that woowoo shit" came off way too harsh... I wonder if it was just a bad narration decision... it would have been alot softer if done in the usual awkward Dallas tone... then again, maybe the Romani personality was leaking through already...

Not long later she says "fuck your mother" when translating a message on the wall of the apartment...

I finished Possession yesterday morning, and it's definitely one of the choppier short stories, for me... Eve's personality is muddled by the Romani hitchhiker... has some nice moments, tho...

Over halfway through my Treachery re-read... definitely one of the more nail-bitey intros... after the quick murder solve with Peabody as primary, anyway...

Also, this feels like a revisit to that early book, where Dallas gets put on administrative leave and has a breakdown, walking around in the rain... really shows how much the department has shifted to have her back, over about 20 books... I think that one also involved police corruption, from vice?... that cop that was scoping out Eve & Peabody, dated Peabody, and attacked her?... pre-McNab...

And Roarke = ORK :D (love Bella)

Bella's pronunciations are too stinking cute! :)

I love that Bella can ware Eve's defenses down. (I'm sure it'll only last while she's tiny, though. LOL)

I love how I'm getting all the credit for this rule, when it's something I learned from writer blogs/etc, from my years of reading...

Specifically Jeaniene Frost, who made the mistake in the Night Huntress series, when she played out a major plot point of the series in a Christmas novella (I think it was one of her earliest contracted novellas)...

Over time, I've definitely come to agree, since I'm not always the best at short stories/novellas, especially since most don't have audio... it's a double-edged sword, tho, because then when random minor cool things happen in short stories, they're never mentioned in the main series, like alot of the Dresden stuff...

Timelord Iain wrote: "That's THE BOOK... breaks the namin..."

Lots of books have naming conventions... and when a single book breaks from it, it's usually significant... the Dresden Files are all 2 word titles of equal character length...

Storm Front, Fool Moon, Dead Beat, Peace Talks, Battle Ground... except for Changes... and if you've read the series, you know how significant that book is...

Same with in Death... New York to Dallas deals with alot of Eve's childhood trauma once and for all... in the books leading up to it, she commented to Mira that the dreams have been coming less often... and after, I think there's a slow sense that's she's dealt with it and is moving forward with her life with Roarke/etc... still occasional blips, but not as many complete breakdowns...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I read Indulgence in Death #32 yesterday. Loved it! She made me absolutely hate the murderers with passion! The one thing that confused me was, that it seemed like while investigating, Eve and the gang were trying to compare these murders to previous cases, and not once did they compare them to the one with exactly the same formula (view spoiler)
