Hi, all.

Hard to believe we're already contemplating the final group read of 2022, but so we are and it's time for nominations.

Think snow.

Let's hear your best snow-packed mysteries, icy thrillers or cold suspense. Do you want to include a holiday? Sure, go ahead. There's a variety of holiday mysteries and they're all fair game ...

But there must be snow.

Oh, yes, definitely snow.

Standard disclaimers apply: 1) If your nomination wins, you get to lead the discussion. 2) Please do not use this space to promote your own books.

Nominations end on NOVEMBER 11 after which I'll create the poll.

Also, don't forget to look in on Nancy's Reading the Movies buddy reads. Right now they're working on Ethel Lina White's Some Must Watch (a.k.a. The Spiral Staircase).

And remember ... snow.

Tony (flintflash) | 1964 comments I nominate Shiver Shiver by Allie Reynolds by Allie Reynolds. Cold, snowy mountain get-away, murder. Perfect for a December read! :)

CBRetriever | 2552 comments I nominate Hidden in Snow by Viveca Sten which is part of today's Daily Deal on Amazon for $1.99. It's the first book in a new series by the author and I've enjoyed all her books.

On the day Stockholm police officer Hanna Ahlander’s personal and professional lives crash, she takes refuge at her sister’s lodge in the Swedish ski resort paradise of Åre. But it’s a brief comfort. The entire village is shaken by the sudden vanishing of a local teenage girl. Hanna can’t help but investigate, and while searching for the missing person, she lands a job with the local police department. There she joins forces with Detective Inspector Daniel Lindskog, who has been tasked with finding the girl. Their only lead: a scarf in the snow.

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments I nominate Snow by John Banville. Takes place in Ireland and, as the title implies, there's lots of the white stuff.

that's a good one - I presume you're referring to this one: The Terror

Bobbi Radford (grieving the loss of my daughter) I can't decide, I like Hidden in Snow and Shiver.

Just noticed a mistake in my post above. Nominations end on NOVEMBER 11. Then I'll create the poll.

An on-line acquaintance used to call them "thinkos," those momentary brain short-circuits.

This book is currently a pre-order, but will be released December 1st or 2nd in time for this group read

Dawn Smila's Sense of Snow by Peter Hoeg. Sorry couldn't figure out how to do the link but this is one of my favorite cold dark ice and snow books with a death and a mystery.

message 16: by Tone (new)

Tone | 1743 comments I agree that Smilla's Sense of Snow is a good choice. Here's the link:

Well, that took less time than I thought:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

I had to leave out Girl in Ice because there are a lot of books titled Girl in Ice or Girl in the Ice and I wasn't sure which author was being referred to.

Ah phooey... and that's the one I ordered, was going to vote for, and look forward to reading. For some reason I just figured this was the one being nominated (New York Times Editors’ Choice * Los Angeles Times Best Crime Novels of Winter 2022 * Reader’s Digest Best Fiction Books of 2022):

Girl in Ice by Erica Ferencik

Sorry about that, Janice. It does help to use the "add book/author" feature.
