madrano | 23680 comments I fully agree with your last sentence, Petra. If i know beforehand, it’s my choice to enter on with that knowledge. Not to tell me leaves me hanging, in which case i usually opt out and irate!

Nicci Carrera | 84 comments Thanks, Petra, I can understand enjoying the series because it is very interesting but it made me a little sad. As for series, I don't really go for them. Once in a while I will, but I do tire of them and strongly prefer standalone books. My mood for reading is constantly changing which is also why I can't join book clubs.

madrano | 23680 comments Nicci, i align with that last sentence very much. Succinctly worded. Thanks.

Gowithme | 2 comments October saw three 5-star reads for me:
Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl (5*): https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/sho...

Effortless Healing by Joseph Mercola (5*): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Babel, Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution by R.F. Kuang (5*): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

And one 4-star read:
A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis (4*): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

It’s more of a 4.5 but Goodreads doesn’t allow half stars :]

Babel has me on the historical fantasy train now. Any recommendations for this genre will be most welcomed.

Welcome to Book Nook Cafe, Gowithme. Thanks for joining and participating.

It looks like you had a stellar reading month.

I've started but have not finished Victor Frankl's book. It's on my list. I've also not read Lewis yet. However, I do want to. The one you read sound interesting. I'll add it to my TBR notebook. Thanks !

madrano | 23680 comments Gowithme, interesting bunch of books. Thanks for sharing about them.

I didn’t realize historical fantasy was a genre but looked it up. As far as i can see, I’ve only read one, Jean M. Auel’s Earth’s Children series, beginning with The Clan of the Cave Bear. I hope you find some good ones!
