I have read this book at least twice and plan to reread it in November. I’ll try to determine whether it makes sense if you haven’t read the first two books yet, and let you know.

Ah. I was locked out of Goodreads for 6 months due to their password snafu, so I’m behind.

LOL
I’m starting my reread. Chapter 1 is mostly catching you up on what has gone before, so if you read it carefully and don’t drown with too many names thrown at you, the book should make enough sense even if you haven’t read any of the previous books. Of course it has a lot of spoilers for the previous two books.

I’m about halfway through. Not finding lines so good I want to quote them, but a lot of the dialog is amusing. There’s definitely action as well as hard SF scientific discussions, puzzles, etc.

I’m on chapter 41, which is right about that same spot.

"I am the actual captain of a spaceship! Even if my spaceship is on the ground at the moment. That gives me more geek cred than all of you... combined!"
…
"Far be it from me to compete in your geek wars," Helen said, a smile in her voice as well, "but I'd point out that a super-spy who helped fight the first interplanetary ship-to-ship battle probably outranks you, too."

I’ll probably finish it tonight, have about an hour left. Have you looked at the 4th book of the series? I tried the free preview back the first time I read Portal and it didn’t grab me. I’ll be trying to decide whether to give it another shot or start wading through my stack of unread free previews.

The sequel to Threshold, Book Three in the Boundary series.
HELL FROZEN OVER
Madeline Fathom had miraculously landed the crippled Nebula Storm on Europa. She joined on that frozen moon of Jupiter the stranded crewmembers of the ill-fated EU vessel Odin. The Nebula Storm's reactor was ruined in the landing, the Odin’s shuttle can’t make the trip back home, and the only vessel that could have make the journey to save them has just been destroyed by a renegade crewman, bad luck, and the remorseless forces of nature.
But Madeline, Helen Sutter, A.J. Baker and the team have one card left to play. All they have to do... is survive lethal radiation, vacuum, and ice as hard as steel while they figure out how to make Nebula Storm fly again.
But even as they prepare to make the journey home, Europa has one more discovery waiting for them... a discovery that might be the deadliest trap in the Solar System!
