Def start w/ Gray Man and move fwd from there. The others you mentioned are standalone books, not in the Gray Man series.
Also, while they say that each book can be read as a standalone, imo it is definitely key to read them in order. You’ll grow with the character. You’ll gain valuable insights into his personality, and the various hurdles and missions he undertakes sequentially

Red Metal and Armored are standalone novels. Feel free to detour there and then start the Gray Man from the top because due to its length the series can no longer be considered truly standalone.
Armored was awesome IMO. Good pacing, great characters, exciting story. Red Metal is also great, but a long read, and a little more technical than the gray man books. But definitely read The Gray Man!! SO much better than the movie.
Agree- start at the beginning of The Gray Man series! As is usually the case, the movie is not as good as the book. Therefore, if you liked the movie, you will LOVE the books!

1. Is there a recommended start? Gray Man series? Red Metal? Armored?
2. How essential is it to read Gray Man in order?
Thanks in advance.
