When you peruse a new bingo card or reading challenge, what prompts draw you in and make you more excited to take on the challenge? Which do you usually skip or avoid?

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 281 comments I like when prompts are general enough that I can complete them with things I would eventually read anyway. For example, the board game from last year was great! There are squares for reading certain genres, read for 3 hours, read 200 pages, read a short story, that kind of stuff. The board game is hard to complete (I just finished doing it in 5 weeks) but not annoying to pick books for.

I skip challenges that have really specific or hard to fulfill requirements, like specific authors, or a book with a cat in it, etc.

Jennifer | 80 comments I like challenges that allow me to change things up while I'm reading, like shift formats or genres, and bingo squares that remind me to take care of myself (stretch, have a hot drink).
Skips are hyper specific ones or ones that require me to leave home during the read a thon.

i like general ones or alphabet challenges. I am NOT going to go on a hunt to find books to fit too obscure or too specific topics. I will not do a challenge that i cannot complete with books I already have or would already be interested in reading and getting from my library. For me, reading is a leisure/escape activity and as such I am very particular about what topics/themes/genres i read. If it is not a genre I am interested in I won't bother with it. if it is a theme or plot or author I am not already interested in, I won't do it.

Newly Wardell | 154 comments Great question. I love the (prompts) challenges even though I usually stick to about 5. I usually fall head over heels in love with a prompt and then get a bit obsessed. There are so many unique and interesting voices.

I like general prompts. I like the nonfiction prompts and would like some genre prompts.
