SOLVED. Children's Fantasy book read in 2010s (probably older?) about a wooden boy born from an egg (not Pinnochio). [s]

I read this book in 2016 or 2017, but it's probably older than that.

The plot revolves around the life of a boy made from wood. He is born from a wooden egg (put in a fire?) and cared for by an old couple. The man accidentally cuts off the wooden boy's thumb.

Later the wooden boy has adventures. He works on a farm with boars/hedgehogs where he has to hoover their spikes/fur. He hoovers up some golden spikes and is super worried they're valuable and he's lost them but it's fine.

Then he ends up in some sort of factory. Making jam?

I've had no luck searching for it. I think it was aimed at tweens. Would be great to find it!
