Christos | 219 comments A while ago I started a thread on the coolest handheld weapons in SF/F and I thought that was a lot of fun and wanted to do something similar. What are your favorite wearable weapons in SF/F, doesn't have to be from stories you like. I don't want to count mechs and power suits because that should be it's own list, should only be weapons that cover 1-2 body parts

Belts-
Nth metal belt from DC- flight (slow without wings), healing, strength
Deadpool belt- teleportation

Bracelets-
10 rings from shang-chi- do too many things to list
Quasar's Quantam Bands- same as Lantern ring

Gloves-
Gravity gloves from Half-life- tech version of telekenesis

Hats-
adjustment bureau hats- makes any door a teleporter

Keys-
Locke and Key keys- can pretty much do anything

Rings-
Lantern Power rings from DC- can do pretty much anything but last a day
One Ring from Lord of the Rings- turns you invisible but not worth it

Shoes-
Black Panthers shoes- Walks on walls and silences footsteps

Watches-
Nightcrawlers watch- hologram disguise
James Bond Watch- explodes, shoots laser, etc

Other-
Star Wars Doctor Aphras tech Tattoos- turns her hands into tasers

Trike | 11232 comments That’s a pretty comprehensive list. Although I might amend it from “weapons” to “tools”.

Watches -
The watch from Joe Haldeman’s Tool of the Trade, which emits a hypnotizing signal.

Tattoos -
The tats from The Warded Man. Each sigil does something different, conferring awesome fantastical abilities upon the wearer. (It’s pretty much the only reason I would get a tattoo.)

Jewelry -
The jade from Jade City, which grants various super powers. You can jump really high, hit really hard, run really fast, etc. Although in later books she had jade-powered movie actors do incredible stunts, she never fully explored everything one could do with such abilities. Like snowboard down mountains or bodysurf boiling geysers.

The nanotech necklace from The Black Panther that deploys a super suit. (Or the ring from The Flash that does the same thing. Instant change of clothes!)

Backpacks -
The cool wings that Falcon wears in the MCU. Man, I want those!

Glasses/Contact Lenses -
Any number of Sci-fi and superhero stories have cool contact lenses, sunglasses and/or spectacles which enhance a person’s vision. From James Bond to Tony Stark to the smartglasses of David Brin’s or William Gibson’s futures. Contact lenses from various franchises do all sorts of neat things, like the record-everything lenses in Black Mirror or the combat-enhancing lenses of the Lost in Space movie.

Ropes -
Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth is pretty handy, but there was also a “smart rope” from some Sci-fi book that would grip or release based on various tug-based commands given to it. Wish I could remember where I read that.

Cloaks/capes -
The Marvel characters Doctor Strange, Cloak (of Cloak & Dagger) and The Hood wear special clothing that gives them cool abilities. In these cases, flight, teleportation and invisibility, respectively. Same for the Harry Potter invisibility cloak.

Footwear -
The Hood also has boots that allow him to levitate. In City of Heroes you can get Piston Boots which allow you jump really far, or Rocket Boots which allow flight. (Not really; in CoH powers and costume bits are separate, so you can get the boots at any time, picking up Super Jump or Fly later. You just roleplay that it’s the boots doing it.)

Trike | 11232 comments Oh, a couple more:

Jewelry -
The Bloodstone, most recently seen in Werewolf By Night on Disney+, which grants super strength and longevity. (There are a huge number of similar gems in Marvel, the most famous being the Infinity Stones, but there are also the Alpha and Omega Stones, Dreamstones, etc., which have various powers.)

Sling Rings from the MCU grant teleportation.

Bags/Pouches/Purses -
Shaman of Alpha Flight has a medicine pouch which contains a pocket dimension where he stores anything he might need. Another character whose name I forget has a purse called The Bag of Infinite Capacity, out of which she can draw anything. Talk about useful items!

I believe the novel Libriomancer has books that can do the same thing, although that might be a power of the character. (I haven’t read it yet.)

Hats/helmets -
Ant-Man’s helmet lets him talk to ants.

Dr. Fate’s helmet grants him magical abilities.

Footwear -
Mordo’s vaulting boots from Doctor Strange allow him to step onto the air.

Which are variations of the classic fairytale Seven-League Boots, which let the wearer step seven leagues at a time. (A league is anywhere from 1.5 to 5 miles, so pretty fast.)

I just read Cheshire Crossing by Andy Weir, and (view spoiler)

Cloaks/capes -
I just remembered Kell’s cloak from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, which lets him traverse the multiverse.

Skrills, living symbionts/weapons worn on a forearm, allow the host to generate energy blasts using their own lifeforce (Earth: Final Conflict)
Atanik armbands enchance wearer’s speed, strength, metabolism, senses (as darkwision), but also affects their temper and aggression. And they stop working after a time.(Stargate SG-1)
