Where possible, Goodreads will populate the ASIN for existing books in the database. (Goodreads Librarians may add the matching ASIN from Amazon if they wish, or may leave doing so up to Goodreads.)
For physical books, in many cases the ASIN and the ISBN10 will be the same. For physical books with an ISBN13 beginning with 979 (which was introduced in early 2020) the ASIN will differ from the ISBN10 (as they have no ISBN10 equivalency).
I have read that but my understanding is not so good in English.
So this book has an ISBN13 beginning with 979, librarians may add the matching ASIN. In this case I can add the matching ISBN to this existing book?
"In the past, the ASIN field in the Goodreads database was only set for Kindle and Audible editions. Going forward, ASINs will also be assigned to physical books that appear in the database."I think this is saying that all books in the database will be assigned an ASIN from Amazon, regardless of format. For print books, I don't think it's limited only to those with ISBN13 beginning with 979.
The section you highlighted is about ASIN/ISBN10 and says that in some cases it will be the same number in both fields.
Haha, it's still chinese for me. (Flemish saying)To avoid making mistakes, I will not create a new book or put the ISBN with the ASIN. :-)
Sorry... you can add the ISBN13 to the paperback edition based on the information at Amazon. This is in line with the new policy.

Kim N, I did try it but I can't fill in the ISBN field, it is blocked.
That actually happened to me too. I contacted support to add the ISBN.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew that librarians could not edit ASIN/ISBN; I did not know it included adding to the record as well.

Now I want to add the paperback with the ISBN but by "see details" the ISBN and ASIN are together in one book.
Must I create a new edition on GR or can I put the ISBN in the field of the existing book?
