Renuka | 212 comments It's already March?? How is that possible?? I've already had so much fun with the previous two genres, and now we're starting LGBTQA fiction!! So exciting!! I personally am not sure which one I'll be reading - but I hope to read Huntress by Malinda Lo, or Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour!!

What about you guys?? There are so many great LGBTQA books out there, let us know which ones you're reading!!!

message 2: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (ronyblack) I absolutely adored Everything Leads to You and I hope to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe in March :)

Frogli | 75 comments I'll be reading Aristotle & Dante to begin with & hopefully Under the Poppy as well

message 4: by Dallas (new)

Dallas (dallieb) | 14 comments I'm going to try and make this month all about LGBTQA. So I'll prolly read I'll Give You the Sun as my specific individual read, but I'm gonna read some other LGBTQA books I have too. And depending on what the group read is... We'll see.

message 6: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments Silvia, as well as Ari & Dante I want to finally read Under the Poppy & As Meat Loves Salt both of which I've been meaning to read for a long time. I have a habit of getting distracted though so we'll see how that works out :)

Also happy to hear about other people's choices and maybe add them to the never ending list!

May I'll probably read 'Everything leads to you' and if I have time I wanted to reread Aristotle and Dante.

message 10: by Renuka , (eternal-books) (new)

Renuka | 212 comments Ahh I'm so excited! So many of you all seem to be reading Everything Leads to You! This is going to be such a fun discussion! I've heard the book is amazing!!

@Incomplete-sentence - Don't panic! Haha, see if any of the choices for the group reads appeal to you! Sylvia and I also plan to send out a link to a bunch of recommendations soon! It may seem overwhelming, but no worries!

@Yasmin - Ooh Malinda Lo seems so interesting! Tell us how Adaptation is!

message 11: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments I seem to be more than two thirds through Ari & Dante in one day! Obviously I'm really enjoying it lol. I think I'll probably be able to manage the other two I had planned :p

The Malinda Lo book sounds interesting, I may give that a try as well...

message 12: by Renuka , (eternal-books) (new)

Renuka | 212 comments WOOP WOOP (I'm going to tell you all a secret...I'm 99% positive Ari and Dante is going to be our group read!) I can't wait to read it either!

message 16: by MJ (new)

message 17: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments So I stayed up longer than is sensible last night and finished off Ari & Dante in a day. It was worth it, it's just a beautiful book which I won't spoil for those who haven't read it yet but I highly recommend.

And this is coming from someone who generally speaking doesn't much like either YA or coming of age type stories!

message 18: by Silvia, (grangerandherbooks) (new)

Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments Frogli wrote: "So I stayed up longer than is sensible last night and finished off Ari & Dante in a day. It was worth it, it's just a beautiful book which I won't spoil for those who haven't read it yet but I high..."

This is exactly why I haven't started it, I know I'm going to devour it and finish it in one night. And as Renuka said, it's really possible this is going to be our group book of the month, so I'm waiting to see if it is and to read it with all of you! I'm so happy you liked it Frogli, once I read it, I look forward to discussing it with you!

message 19: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments It had been taunting me for a while, I am almost proud that I managed to wait until March. Just :p

Have now started Under the Poppy, and by 'started' I mean decided I'm reading it next.

message 20: by Skyler (new)

Skyler C I'm reading Boy Meets Boy and I'm enjoying it. If I can get my hands on it, I plan on reading Ari and Dante.

message 21: by Renuka , (eternal-books) (new)

Renuka | 212 comments AHHH so who is excited to be reading Ari and Dante!! Go join the group read conversation!! And if you aren't sure about which book you'd like to read - here are some recommendations!

http://eternal-books.tumblr.com/post/...

But anyway, I'm about 40% done with Everything Leads to You, and I LOVE IT. The main character is so passionate about her work, and I love how her sexuality is so completely accepted. It's just a fun, fluffy read, and I can't wait to see where it goes! Who else is reading it?

message 22: by Silvia, (grangerandherbooks) (new)

Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments Hi I just wanted to come here because we got some really hard comments on our list in tumblr. If anyone here feels offended by the books we chose, please let us know. We'll try to include other books written by LGBTQA and POC authors. I understand that this list is limited, but we're just discovering these books ourselves. I feel really bad for someone calling me ignorant and discriminative and telling me they don't have time for my ignorant vision of the world and go fix myself, because of that list. I am trying to learn more about these books, I can assure you this list wasn't written as an act of discrimination towards LGBTQA people. We had a REALLY HARD TIME CHOOSING which books to include, this process of selection wasn't easy and it wasn't the best most complete list ever, we know, we would like your help making it better. I feel really terrible right now, I'm really terrified of hurting someone with this list. If we did, please let us know and we can change that. I feel really bad because it was never our intentions for anyone to feel excluded, I'm just sad they perceived it that way. I'm going to try and sleep now.

Uhm, I think I'm pretty much with Paul on this one. It's fine not to like the list for whatever reason, you think it should be more diverse & representative? Yes it probably could. But if all they are doing is spouting bile without making any suggestions of their own then they can STFU.

You made no claim that it was a definite list, it was just a list to give people a place to start if they didn't have any ideas of their own, no one has to read them.

So yes, carry on and don't let them get you down.

message 24: by Silvia, (grangerandherbooks) (new)

Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments Paul and Frogli, thank you so much for your support. I was really sad that person didn't want to include suggestions. If someone admits being wrong and not knowing and asks for help and education on the matter, anyone who wants to change the views of the world should grab that opportunity to educate someone and stir them in the right direction. That’s the sad part about tumblr activism, I just feel like people in this site can don't try and make a change about things by educating others without hate and reproach for the person not knowing in the first place. I still feel sad this happened because it was never out intention that people felt out, but we didn’t quite know which books to include and if lgbtqa poc author were lef out, it wasn’t out intention.

message 25: by Renuka , (eternal-books) (new)

Renuka | 212 comments Hey guys! Thank you so much for your support (Paul and Frogli especially, thank you so much)! We appreciate you all so much, and we really wanted to make a difference with this month! We worked really hard on our list, and we're so grateful you all loved it! It definitely was just a basic list for people who didn't know where to start, and I'd like to think it included a large variety of books. It wasn't perfect, but it absolutely was not our intention to leave anyone out. I'd like to think that this genre will be able to help a lot of people find books to relate to, or learn from.

Sylvia and I are really happy to be doing this 2015 Genre Challenge with you all, because you are amazing people, and I love reading alongside you!!

On another note, I finished Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour and I really enjoyed it! The plot felt a little empty, but the characters were compelling and adorable! The movie descriptions were amazing too!! Did anyone read it yet?

Also has anyone read Beauty Queens by Libba Bray?! I'd love to talk about it!!

message 26: by Tamara (last edited Mar 04, 2015 03:59PM) (new)

Tamara (tamarasan) Oh my goodness, you just don't listen to those people on tumblr! You guys try to open up people to new genres and have new experiences. Just totally ignore them.

If they wanted to do something like, oh, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, then they could add to the list with their own suggestions.

message 27: by Alexondra (new)

Alexondra I just finished Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, and now I think I'm going to read Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan. I'm not sure what I'll read after that...

Thank you so much Tamara! Exactly! They didn't even bother helping us. They just told us our list was awful and walked away Thanks for your support <3

@Lexie - Oh yay! Did you enjoy it? Also, I personally don't love David Levithan, but tell us how the book is! If you enjoy it, I may give him another try!

@Sophie - I should have read that ages ago, but I haven't! I've only seen the movie (oops!) Let me know how the book is!

message 29: by Frogli (new)

Frogli | 75 comments I'm curious about Perks, I meant to see the film but never got round to it lol

Currently reading Under the Poppy I'm liking it but am tired and this one requires concentration so may wait until the weekend to pick it up again.

The Perks is really good and emotional and sad. The movie is just as good, because the author wrote the script. I love both a lot., I definitely recommend it!

Yeah, I think the author favored the wow surprise punch in the feels factor more than the discussion reflection factor. I totally see what you mean, after the big revelation we don't see the process of dealing with it. But I loved it, I loved the fact that's epistolary, I'm a sucker for epistolary books.

Renuka | 212 comments Sophie wrote: "It's a reread, but I'm about 50 pages in and I started it last night. It's a quick read, and I definitely agree with you Silvia. But Renuka, do read it!"

I shall! I remember starting it a long while back and getting about 1/3 of the way in, but I just never finished. I wasn't loving the voice of the narrator, but maybe I will with another try. I do enjoy epistolary ;) (Dracula and Code Name Verity are some I love! <3)

CODE NAME VERITY IS EPISTOLARY?! Oh my God I'm going to love that book so much! I can't wait to read it, I'm saving it for historical fiction month in our challenge, but I might not resist until November!

Helen (cooksbooks78) I am reading Will Grayson, Will Grayson this month. I am about half way through atm and I am enjoying it so far

OH HELL YES. It's the main character writing down her story during interrogations by the Gestapo and it's freaking FLAWLESS. I won't say anything else. I want everybody to love that book. Not everyone does because there are so many technical portions (airplane jargon, etc), but YESSSS READ IT.

Awesome!! I haven't read a John Green book in a long time. Maybe Will Grayson, Will Grayson shall be my next choice! (I wonder how many people there are actually named Will Grayson...)

message 37: by Helen (new)

Helen (cooksbooks78) I finished it. It was good I enjoyed and I may have had a little tear at the end because of the kindness and niceness shown to another person! A good read

Wonderful! Thanks for telling us! A book must be good if it can inspire such emotion in the reader!! <3

Beth (jasonverlander) | 4 comments I read I'll Give You the Sun and I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been brought up yet

Hey Ducky, glad to see you around here! I've been meaning to get to it as my individual read, I was just finishing Beauty Queens which was hilarious. Did you enjoy I'll Give You the Sun?

Rhia (rhiareads...) (rhiasaurus) I'm reading The Art of Being Normal at the moment, enjoying it so far although, and I don't know if this is just me, but the character development seems a bit lacking.

Still waiting on my copy of Aristotle and Dante to arrive but definitely looking forward to that one!

message 42: by Beth (new)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 4 comments It ruined my life and it was so beautiful! You should definitely read it soon

Rhia (rhiareads...) (rhiasaurus) So The Art of Being Normal turned out to be AMAZING! And I finally started Aristotle and Dante on the train home last night. Probably finish it on the train today!

message 44: by Renuka , (eternal-books) (new)

Renuka | 212 comments @Ducky - Absolutely!! I need to read it soon too, but it sounds amazing.

@M - Wow, I really need to read Dorian Grey soon! And I need to look up the other two!

@Rhia - I've heard so many amazing things about The Art of Being Normal! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Ari and Dante is amazing too!!

message 45: by Silvia, (grangerandherbooks) (new)

Silvia (biblionation) | 187 comments I just finished Everything Leads to You and it was the sweetest, most beautiful and tender story ever! I absolutely loved it and I know I'm going to re-read it when I'll feel low in the future. It's just so cute and lovely!

I'll be starting I'll Give You the Sun, following Ducky's recommendation!

message 46: by Melany (new)

Melany (globalbymel) I've finished my two books for this month and was saddly disapointed by them both. I should rely more on recommendations I suppose.

Love in the Time of Global Warming had such a promising premise. An end of the world take on the Odyssey, where the hero is a girl and her love interest is trans and her two friends are gay and they all develop elemental powers? Sounds pretty cool. However, it just never gels together to make a cohesive story. Things happen but we barely get any answer why. It's a classic case of just this happens, then this, and then this happens. It's the first in a series though so maybe there are more answers in the later books.

My other read this month was Santa Olivia, which is about a genentically modified girl in a seceret government town, who uses her powers to become a sort of superhero. She eventually falls in love with another girl in town and has to decide between justice or love. Again, sounds like a great story. However it was soooooooooo slooooooow. And there was a strange obession with boxing.

The group read this month seems to have sounded interesting and lots of people liked it so I might add it to my to-read list at some point.

Aww that's too bad :( Maybe you could try looking at the lists the next time you want to read from this genre? I hope you find some books you like! Most people definitely seemed to enjoy Ari and Dante!! You should give it a try!

Thanks for sharing!! <33
