YA book. 2000s Main character is sent to a place with teens where they face there fears

book is about this teen who is like a misfit and is sent to the compound with a group of other teens. they are recorded and each of them must face their fears. the main character is afraid of water. when they do these fear challenges the teens start to change and act differently.

Edit: the place it takes place is this big black building surrounded by grass and there is like a pond in front of it.
