Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Bryan, my youngest grandson, will be 6 in 2023 and we will fill in books as we go throughout the year, with minimum planning. While #48 (unusually large animal) seems difficult for adult lit, it will be super easy for kid's books and will probably be the prompt we do twice (#50). For the Murder prompt, I think we will go with a book about crows (i.e., a murder of crows).

Feel free to recommend books!

T. Hampton | 104 comments I think this is really cool that you are doing this! And picture books are so much fun! I'm reading exclusively from the list of Newbery honor recipients which includes more than 400 books. While many of them are for middle grade readers, there are also lots of picture books and easier reads as well. You could check out that list for ideas. Tons of the books will fit prompts.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Well, at 23 books read, we are almost 1/2 way through the challenge. I'm only updating the spreadsheet. This has been harder than I expected to do with a 6 year old but Bryan's reading has improved leaps and bounds this year! I'm really happy and surprised with his reading ability. I think a challenge geared towards kids, with simpler prompts, would be a better option for him but I'm glad we tried it! Also, he would be more motivated if the challenge was through his school.

Thanks Kathy! We've been reading grade 2 chapter books and he likes to alternate either sentences or paragraphs with me. I'm really surprised at his reading fluency! It's exciting to watch the process of a child becoming a reader. I'm guessing the Harry Potter books will be on the horizon!
