MJ | 947 comments Okay, I lied when I said I wasn’t going to plan 2023, but I keep finding books that I want (for various reasons) to get off my tbr. Past experience suggest though, that the books on my list that I add before New Years will look totally unappealing when January 1 rolls around. The four books I lined up for the start of 2022 did not get read! It’s too bad, because I really want to read all the books I have listed NOW.

EDIT: except for Moby Duck. The title fits, so it’s just there as an option.

Celeste (celesteryr) | 488 comments Get better from COVID! I'm a slow reader and I over plan way before Jan. 1st as well. My loophole: Read as much as you can and save the last pages for the New Year. (^_^) It makes your GR reading challenge look like it's on track! Please take care! CELESTE.

P.S. Let me know if you need me to delete my comment. I don't want to interrupt your list's flow.

I don’t mind comments appearing in the thread so it can stay! I had Covid in October when I started the thread, so I am better now!

I’m already “behind” in this year’s challenge! I don’t have a good track record for finishing all the challenge prompts, which I am okay with… as long as I’m reading some great books along the way!

MJ | 947 comments I’m currently reading Bird Box for
28. A book that is dark

And I’m enjoying it way more than I expected. So creepy!

The recent read-a-thon had me googling for short book I could fit for those prompts and now I’m want to read a bunch at once!

Melt With You
The Cat Who Saved Books
Tokyo Ueno Station
are waiting for me to read them. Not that they’re super short, but they caught my interest while searching for read-a-thon books. I’m behind in this year’s ATY but I did a bunch of catching up last week and these four books will help me catch up some more.

MJ | 947 comments All this year I’ve had the name Rupert Sheldrake down as an author for
42. A book related to a ghost, spirit, phantom, or spectre

And it appears that I mixed up his name with someone else for that prompt. I remember discovering an author I really wanted to read for that one, but now I have no idea who it was. Not Mr. Sheldrake.
Ridiculous.

MJ | 947 comments I’ve just read the preface and first paragraph of Lonesome Dove and thinking there’s no way I can get through an 800+ page book at this stage of the challenge when I have five or six other, shorter books that I also want to read. But that first paragraph and preface have me hooked! Reluctantly I am shelving it until next year, when maybe I can fit it in for the prompt,

A book involving travel.

I am over halfway through First: Sandra Day O'Connor and I am enjoying it much more than I expected. I am reading it for:

40. A book with a full name in the title

I will not be finishing the challenge this year but I’ll keep chugging along to see how far I get. It has been a really tough year, plus I’m starting a new job next week, and getting ready for a big trip in December. Too many distractions that won’t allow me to focus on books!
