celestine (sepiasapphic) | 2 comments I read this between 2017 and 2019. Basically an upper class woman is given the opportunity to participate in a scientific experiment where lower class people (usually, only because being scientific test subjects is one of the only ways to make money in this society) become "hosts" for the consciousness of these rich people. I remember the "host" for the main character was a man who slept on a couch, and he didn't know there was anyone living in his brain until she invaded his subconscious while he was sleeping.
She can experience what the "host" is feeling including emotion and all senses.
I remember a scene where she was startled how completely covered with ads the small television inside this "host"'s apartment was, to the point where the actual media he was watching was only in a corner. Again, classist and dystopic themes. More plot is below, under spoiler section.

I also remember a cover where the top and bottom were different colors, orange and blue, and the colors were splintering into white space towards the center of the cover. I believe the title followed the "The ______ors" format but that's not 100% the case. I've been looking in every database, asking every librarian, and no one has ever heard of this.

***SPOILERS (but not really because I don't remember)***

I'm pretty sure at the middle or end the "host" discovers that the woman is in his brain, and can sort of communicate with her. There's an altercation with a girlfriend he had, there's some shady business going on where someone gets shot, it's a plot twist at the very end who shot the gun I think?

I appreciate any help with this! Thanks so much.
