Classic as in any book that likely could be covered in a literature and/or English course and is probably at least 40 or so years old, maybe 30 depending on the book. I don't think it necessarily has to be European/U.S./Russian. It could probably also be Asian (The Art of War for example) or any other continent/country.

I have sources, including an article from an open access peer reviewed journal published in 2018 (Arts), focused on Akira and it's placement within the cyberpunk genre involving the context within its publication era.
