That's about how I felt after finishing this one. :)

Michelle | 307 comments I finished yesterday and really enjoyed it! Loved the end :)

LTJ (ltj81) | 2000 comments About to hit 30% in and it's pretty interesting but a bit confusing. I think there are way too many characters but I think I get why since it feels like Squid/Hunger Games so I'm hoping it goes somewhere. LoL waiting for something creepy, scary, or insane to happen as this feels like a bit of a slow-burn. I hope it pays off...

I did really enjoy the characters we get to see more of though, and (view spoiler)

Anyone else selecting songs for a soundtrack as they go along? :-p

LTJ (ltj81) | 2000 comments Just finished this and unfortunately, I didn't like this one at all. I definitely wanted more horror and all these characters confused me. Awe well, onto the next one but I'm glad those of you that loved it enjoyed it :-)

Jason | 486 comments Finished this last night, 3 stars. Bit of an anti-climax for me at the end. Slow start, characters ok, enjoyed it more when explaining the history and backstory for everything. Seemed a bit easy for them to deal with the thing at the end. Generous 3 Stars.

inciminci | 650 comments It wasn't my thing either, started well then somehow lost me.

I thought the same thing when I got done reading this! I would love to see it made into a movie. Just the setting along would be amazing!

Exactly! I loved the backstory and there was so little of that. I would have enjoyed the book going into more detail.

While I only gave the book 3 stars, the setting was one of the things that saved it from a lower rating from me. I absolutely loved it. Everything was detailed so well and ... absolutely creepy!

Jason | 486 comments This book could of been a lot more than it was, agree settimg was good.

Having read it prior to the group read, it is so interesting to see the comments as people go on. Quite a few mirrored my own while reading!

It's funny how all my friends reviews are ranging from 1 to 5 stars for this one, I haven't read it yet, just seems like $50k is not enough money to change your life, after taxes and all..and if you survive and all that jazz.

As I recall, all the "contestants" were specifically chosen to be those who would find the money life changing.

Christen Hayes | 1 comments I read this book in one sitting .. the first few chapters had me thinking I was not going to like it - cheap writing, age stereotyping, and just a general tone that is cheesy and redundant.

BUT I kept going with it, and admit there were a handful of times I was a little spooked, when she was hiding and when the "seeker" was unknown. And it did get better as I got into it, and did have some good gore. The setting was also cool, the abandoned amusement park was described well and looked very cool in my head.

Overall, it was an okay read .. I liked how it left you hanging at the end of each contestants "blurb", and let you pull the pieces together on who they were, why they were there, and what happened to them in the end. It is funny the author mentions 'horror movies deep in the catalog of Netflix or in the $2 DVD bin at Walmart" .. because that is basically how this read as a book. I pictured it almost written for TV/Movie.

I also got confused a bit on whose POV the book was intended to be from.. it opened up as a Mack's first person account on what was going on in her life and how she got to the game .. but often switched to hear first person accounts of other contestants in a way that left you kind of confused. Odd writing choice but it did let you get to know the characters better.

I am glad to have added this to my October Spooky Book arsenal, and also glad it was a quick read that only took up one evening of my life. It was like binging 7 hours of a reality show! Which ... is kind of how the show would be .. with 2 contestants being found each episode.

Not a bad read if you are a quick reader, and good for Spooktober.

Catalina | 16 comments Hide was a fun ride! Just finished late into the night. The town folk are sinister freaks for sure! Whoa what a build up and back history for the book. Makes you thunk of the “covenant” and the ties deep in the country of the books back story. The map was a jive touch too. I enjoyed following and guessing where they could be.

Lauren | 11 comments I absolutely loved this! I loved the narration style and the last line of the second or third to last chapter hyped me up so much for the ending and I thought it awesome.

I completely agree with you about this book coming off like a cheap dollar bin horror movie at Walmart lol. That being said, I probably would have liked the movie adaptation more. I just finished it on my lunch break at work, and I can't say I'm disappointed at having read it or that I regret it or anything, but I don't think it was particularly good. It was just fine, and I don't have much else to say about it. (view spoiler) Either way, it was just fine in my opinion.

I'd love to read your review! I enjoyed the book. I wanted to know more about what happened to everyone after.

destiny ♡ howling libraries (howlinglibraries) | 317 comments I finished the book this morning! I feel like it would have made a MUCH better film, but I enjoyed it well enough and gave it 3.5 stars. The first half was really hard for me to connect to or care about with the number of characters (and who the hell signed off on naming two of them Ava? lol), but the second half was much more enjoyable IMO and I liked the ending. (view spoiler)

Amanda | 96 comments This book wasn't one of my favorites. I definitely wanted more character development because I found myself not being interested in what happened to any of them. I thought the story itself was interesting but at the end of the book I just wanted more...

Anshika | 18 comments I'm currently reading this book and it's going interesting.

Becky | 8 comments I really liked this book. I listened to it on audiobook and I feel like I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much if I had actually read it. The ending though left me feeling like that’s the end? Maybe there will be a sequel.

Hayley | 82 comments I enjoyed this! I think there were way too many characters for the length of the book, and the ending felt a little abrupt to me. (view spoiler) I needed more monster info, haha. I will say I was entertained though. Certainly not my favorite, but I had a good time, and that's why I'm rounding up to a 4 instead of a 3 (I think it's like a 3.5).

And I did finish it Monday night! Even though I'm just now getting around to typing up my thoughts. ;)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I finally got my hands on this book, Thank you Libby, and my local library. I'm 168 pages in, and It's a romp so far.

Alison | 27 comments Sorry I just got active on good reads but I loved this book!!

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 426 comments So good, I'd love to see it adapted as a movie or show.

Honestly, this could make a good episodic show - like a mock-reality show. I'd kinda like to see that too!
