The House Behind the Cedars

I shall give it another try.
Judi Twomey

I would like to nominate Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez for the November 2022 Post-1990 category.
Thank you.

I'm not a mod or anything, but was wondering if you were posting from your cell (vs. laptop or desktop)? I have noticed that accessibility and communication options vary between these. One difference that has been recently noted is that the view/hide spoiler option doesn't work if you're checking the comments from your phone. >:-(
I am sure that it's some sort of tech issue. I am definitely a toddler in the GR world, but I have noticed that Tom and the other mods on this page follow up on the posts, and let users know if (and why) a submission doesn't fit the guidelines.

Cheryl's suggestion is better than anything I could come up with. In any event, your nominations did finally post and have been added to the list. Thank you for your excellent suggestions.

In an effort to wrap up these nominations, I suggest The Kingdoms of Savannah for post 1990, and A Stillness at Appomattox for pre-1990. By my count, that leaves one more needed for the pre-1990 category.

We will consider books with a southern literary theme that have not been read by the group in the last 24 months. Per our recently revised criteria, the two categories are books originally published in or before 1990 or those published after 1990. You may make one nomination in each category. Authors may not nominate their own works. Please post your nominations below and specify which category you are nominating it for.
Nominations will stay open for one week or until we receive six nominations in each category. Voting will take place in the first ten days of next month.
The eligible nominations received will be listed below:
Books originally published in or before 1990
1. Blues for Mister Charlie, by James Baldwin
2. The Good Old Boys, by Elmer Kelton
3. The House Behind the Cedars, by Charles W. Chesnutt
4. In the Land of Dreamy Dreams, by Ellen Gilchrist
5. A Stillness at Appomattox, by Bruce Catton
6. Hold Autumn in Your Hand, by George Sessions Perry
Books originally published after 1990
1. When the Reckoning Comes, by LaTanya McQueen
2. Where the Dead Sit Talking, by Brandon Hobson
3. Night Came with Many Stars, by Simon Van Booy
4. Bull Mountain, by Brian Panowich
5. Take My Hand, by Dolen Perkins-Valdez
6. The Kingdoms of Savannah, by George Dawes Green
FYI: As October is my favorite month, theme-wise, I usually wheel and deal with the other moderators so that I can choose the October Moderators Choice selection. This year it seems appropriate to pay tribute to Anne Rice, a prolific southern author who passed away earlier this year. As I have a historic connection with witches, I have decided on The Witching Hour. As this is a weighty tome, literally and figuratively, we will be allowing ourselves two months to get through it. Hopefully, you will join us in reading this.
