Ekta Shah 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' is a book I have read many times as a child. This book is gripping, humorous and teaches the reader the importance of having willpower.

Charlie is one of 5 people worldwide to find the precious 'Golden Ticket' which then leads to an invite to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory as well as a lifetime supply of chocolate! Each of the other Golden Ticket winners gave into temptation throughout the process, but Charlie's willpower saw him right through to the end; this meant he was the winner of a lifetime supply of chocolate, the successor to the factory, and his entire family was invited to live at the factory with him!

This book teaches children (and us adults!) to not be so materialistic and get caught up in our own lives. The imagination used to write this book with all the crazy adventures that occurred can definitely spark creativity amongst the readers!

Whilst on BSE2, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the focus book for a topic called 'Scrumdidliuptious'. Some curriculum links that we used were:

- Geography/DT: Study of chocolate and how/where it is made

- Science: Links to teeth/digestion; how we look after our teeth and the impact chocolate may have on teeth. I also did a great practical activity on the journey of chocolate through the digestive system.

- Art: Study of Quentin Blake (Illustrator) and recreate some of his artwork

- English/Literacy: Write own versions of the scenes in the story as if they were one of the characters
