Cassandra’s family is stunned when the newspaper publishes an anonymous article that ruins her reputation and paints her as a tease. Tom takes the drastic measure of buying the newspaper, identifying the author of the article as being the Marquis of Ripon, Lord Lambert’s father and tells the truth about what happened. However, society gives them a pass and “forgives” Cassandra. Did that surprise you? Have things changed that much?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I love that Tom went on the offensive and immediately put an end to the story and quashed the gossip.

I think that a lot of London Society knew that both father and son Rippon had problems and with the Ravenel family and supporters standing firmly behind her, they forgave her.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I knew Tom was going to do something for Cassandra. In fact, I expected him to buy the newspaper. He was great. I wasn't surprised that society gave a Marquis a pass. It's the old "boys will be boys" philosophy.

I was angry for Cassandra. She deserves more than being "forgiven." She did win in the end.

I was hoping that they’d at least shun these two but things really haven’t changed that much. Silly me.

Kudos to Tom for at least restoring Cassandra’s reputation, as it were. It’s a shame that after this incident, the Marquis and his miserable son were still viewed in higher stead than Tom.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I loved that Tom bought the newspaper to get the information about who was behind the article. I wasn't sure how he would find out, but I wasn't expecting him to buy the paper.

Cassandra did nothing that needed "forgiven". That just made me mad. And letting the Lambert's off the hook was not a surprise. Men with money are always given a pass, at least most of them.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I really loved how Tom solved this for Cassandra. And no, I wasn't really surprised that father and son didn't suffer any real repercussions. I agree. Men with money are normally able to do whatever they want.
