West and Deven both know Tom as a ruthless businessman. That is the side they know best. He may be a friend, but they certainly don't want him for sweet, sheltered Cassandra.
It was more about Cassandra. They knew that Cassandra wanted a traditional marriage based on love and children. West and Devon know Tom from how they all treated women in the past. I believe that West and Devon were worried that Tom wouldn't make Cassandra happy because his emotions are so guarded. I found it interesting because West and Devon changed when they found the woman they loved, but they questioned if the same could happen to Tom.
It’s kind of funny. When Devon first got the title, he was ready to marry the sisters off to the highest bidder. Now they’ve become precious to him and who they marry matter. Their happiness is paramount. This was about Cassandra.
This was all about Cassandra. They knew, because she had turned down so many suitors previously, that she wanted a love match.

It is funny how Devon and West both changed once they were responsible for other people. It changed their outlook on life and what is important to the people they loved.

I’d forgotten that!
I’d forgotten that!

I think that’s what was key..their outlooks changed.
